New to shotguns. I have a nice pump and now I am looking into a nice semi auto. I am not much of a hunter. I would like to be able to use it for plinking as well as trap. Cost is a consideration but if there is something worth having i am willing to pay for it. Can some one give me a point in the right dirction.

Mossberg 930,lot of gun for the money, If you can find one.
I just bought the berretta 391 urika sporting model for the mrs, ported extended choke tubes and a breako recoil reducer. She loves me I mean the gun, she into trap and blowing up water bottles 
the 1100 and 11-47's need to be squeaky clean to function flawlessly, well that goes for any auto but the remingtons seam to be the most finiky that I have owned.

About 10 years ago I attended a showroom of newly imported Russian shotguns. I was impressed with the quality/price that I bought a semi-auto 12 ga. and planned to use it for skeet/trap.
Well it is still in the box BNIB not used and has had a yearly C96 spray-down and I would like to sell it. Problem is I forgot what I paid for it?

That's just one person's experience. They don't have to be squeaky clean by any means, just not filthy, lubed, and all the springs and O-rings must be up to spec. A brittle O-ring and a weak magazine tube or recoil spring will cause malfunctions.
They are great shotguns. They fit most people, have great balance, are very soft shooting guns, and a 2-3/4" gun for clays shooting can be had very cheaply.

If you're not going to hunt with it then the Beretta Urika is a great solid "do all" semi that is gas operated instead of inertia driven to cycle some of the lightest trap loads you can feed it while still popping out the big boys easilly.
I own a Beretta Extrema 2. It is basically the same gun only mine has a "kick-off" pad on the butt for heavy hunting loads and has been coated in a special finish to waterproof it better in the hunting elements. (You don't need these expensive extras)
On the "cheaper end" of the semis there is the Stoeger 2000
Great bang for your buck gun and not half bad quality either.
