Looking for a place to shoot around Calgary

I'm just wondering if anyone can tell me of any good places to take rifles/shotguns out to fire off some rounds. Just bought a new shotgun, and will be picking up a .22 today. I'll be needing to break them in this weekend! I'm looking for outdoor/in the wilderness places. Not ranges. Thanks.
 
Go to a farmer and ask for permission to go shoot gophers. Lots of them won't mind at all as long as you keep your back to the cows/livestock and their house and barns etc. Works for me.
 
How is the homestead range? I'm only going to be using a 22LR rifle, I have read some disturbing things about it though and the people that go out there. Is it always busy? is there a better time to go? like weekdays? or sundays?

I went on a Monday a couple weeks ago and I was the only one there.
 
we ended up going to the Sibald range. It was pretty nice up there. Would have rather been alone so we could check our targets more often but hey, at least no one would come bother us. We still want a place in the bush to go. but i guess we'll have to find that on our own.
