Deer season will be over in a couple weeks and it is high time the coyote's got thinned out around here! I've been wanting to try a decoy for a couple years now but haven't been able to find anything suitable locally.
Lately I've been looking at the Whirling Woodpecker decoy and have read good things about it. Unfortunately I can't seem to find anyone who will ship to Canada. Anyone know where I might find this thing? Perhaps there is another option that would work equally well? I like the fact that it sits up in a tree or on a fence, increasing the visibility. I think it migh be just the thing to bring them in close where a shotgun would be very effective. It should increase the number of doubles too, at least I think it would. Any idea's?

All I have used is a stuffed animal. Seems to work fine on bringing them in.
If you still have your hart set on the Whirling Woodpecker decoy i found this one on ebay for $15

Use the neighbors yappy little dog and tie it to a stake. I used a frozen fox one year and worked great. Buy a kids stuffed animal that is brown or grey and set it out. They are easy to carry and actually work very well.

Seen a Jack attack from Foxpro? Looks pretty awesome!

The Whirling Woodpecker is a neat little decoy, compact and lightweight, and as long as you have a tree or bush around to hang it from, you're good to go. It is a little fragile, though. I got mine direct from Outfoxed Products a few years ago, so unless they've changed their shipping policies, I am not sure why you would have trouble.

I use a Mojo Critter these days, and while it is heavier and not as compact, you can stake it anywhere. The 'stop and go' action is eye catching and battery life is impressive.

I use dog toys on a wire coat hanger. Usually a rabbit but I found a very realistic grouse I want to try this year. It works pretty good with a little bit of wind for irratic movement. I painted the wire I use with flat white primer so it blends in.

I find most bait type decoying only works best in the snow as they are hard to see in fields higher than a 18" and the 'yotes have to come really close to see them anyway, plus the coyotes always seem to be desparately hunting during the cold clear winter weather. Breeding season (Feb-Mar) always greatly increases your chances when trying a decoy.

I use an old tent pole with 5 turkey feathers tied to it with fishing line. You don't need anything expensive. The feathers work the best, they blow around in any wind. Have my caller underneither it and soon as the coyotes locks onto the feathers movement they come in hard. They never get close enough to figure out what it is, I bet if a person seen the feathers blowing around in the wind from a distance they would think something is getting eaten there.

I bought the " Mojo Critter" ..only been out with it once though..no luck that day. The caller I use has the decoy attached..so I will try them together.

I had a quiverin rabbit worked great till this morning. A big redtailed hawk flew aeway with it. I wasn't very happy and that hawk has no clue how close he came
