Looking For A Quality Crossover Optic

Looking for input from fellow Gunnutz on a crossover optic for a 6.5 Creedmoor. This rifle is a Christensen Arms in a McMillan Stock and is used for a main hunting rifle as well as shooting steel out to 1200 yards. So far been an excellent firearm! Recently had a Nightforce NX8 F2 mounted and have since sold it due to not enjoying the picky parallax and eye box. So out looking for the perfect crossover optic. (I know, doesn’t exist ) The two choices I’ve been really looking at is another Leupold Mark 5HD 5-25x56 or a Vortex Razor LHT 4.5-22x50. With the Razor the feature set is stacked and the weight is really good. But I had an original Razor LH and was not the biggest fan. Found the glass pretty bleak, the capped elevation and reticle options limiting. So hoping this Razor LHT FFP is an improvement. Now having owned a Leupold Mark 5HD before I pretty much know what I’m in for. I found the Locking elevation turret to be quite nice and the glass to be really good. Just the weight isn’t quite as light as some other options. I’m basically looking for a lower weight F1 optic with pretty good to amazing glass, a good usable reticle and great mechanics. Illumination would a bonus as well! Anyone have any input or recommendations? Thanks in advance!

Honestly, I'd give the LHT 4.5-22x50 a go. Nothing else in that weight class has the features it does. The Leupy illuminated reticles aren't great and there's a huge upcharge for them. If you could get the CCH, PR1 or PR2 with centre illumination, then it'd be worth it but the TMR and T3 are opposite ends of the spectrum and really not my flavour. You didn't like your F2 NX8 so I won't sing the praises of the 2.5-20 F1 but I really like mine so far, gonna have to take the time to actually compare it side by side with my Mk5s. Honestly, there's not much else I can think of till you step up a price level.

Thank you rugby for the opinion! I’d have to agree on the illumination on the Leupold. Unfortunately the only reticle that Leupold produces that speaks to me are the pr1 and pr2. Not a huge fan of the TMRs and CCH. I’m always willing to step up a price bracket as well. Having owned Atacrs and now Kahles optics I’m not unfamiliar with the higher end offerings. What optics in the step up category do you have experience with or would recommend I look at?

No real experience with any of the higher level stuff, to be honest. I've played with ZCos and the glass is awesome but they don't have anything sub 30oz that I know of, the Tangent 3-15x50 (about 28oz) with the 30mm tube would be worth a look, same for the S&B 5-20x50 Ultra Short (29oz). There really isn't anything with the specs/features of the Vortex LHT 4.5-22 FFP right now that I can think of, at any price.

I would look into the new Zeiss LRP-S5 that was just announced. Zeiss quality glass with functional turrets. Designed for hunting and PRS, and has insane elevation adjustments to shoot out to 1200 as you mentioned.

Try a Swarovski Z3 or Z5 with a BRX or BRH reticle. I have one on almost every hunting rifle I own. They don't have the trailer park appeal of spinning wheels, oversized turrets, and glowing reticles but they work well.

If you're ok with SFP. I was sorting out a buddy's hunting rifle with a Z5p the other day and it's a nice scope but not in the same league as a Mk5, ATACR, NX8, imo. Also, the reticle is bizarre. The elevation subtensions make sense (0.5mils at 18x, 1.0 at 9x, etc) but the windage subtensions on the "tree" make no sense to me as they subtend more (from the vertical line to the first hashmark) as you go down the tree. I don't see the point of that unless the extent they "grow" (0.25mil per 1.0mil of elevation at 18x) lines up with a specific wind mph? I dunno, I'm far too used to FFP to run a SFP in anything except maybe an LPVO.

Thank you everyone for the replies!

USPfan - That new Zeiss looks very interesting. I’ve always really enjoyed there offerings. Having owned many V4 Scopes, Conquest Binos and looked through a few Victory SF’s. There glass is very good! I’d like to hear some feedback from some trusted reviewers before jumping on the LRP-S5. Definitely on the radar.

Millwright - I’ve always wanted to look through a few of Meopta offerings but haven’t had the opportunity unfortunately. There glass has a good reputation on the web for sure. What makes you suggest the Optika 6 over the other two mentioned? Have you had hands on with this scope? If so do tell how it was!

Duncan - I’m a huge fan of Swarovski Optiks and have owned quite a few of there pieces now. But I unfortunately don’t see an offering that really stands out for my usage. The X5 being the closest. Just not a fan of the large elevation turret that requires a special tool for zeroing and SFP is not on my radar at the moment. I don’t doubt the z3 or z5 would make a great scope for a strictly hunting lightweight backpacking rig. Thank you for the suggestion!

RugbyDave - I happen to agree with you on being used to F1 vs F2. Did you happen to mean the ZP5 by Minox? If so, I’ve read and heard many good things about this scope. Apparently aligns itself with the top of the heap optically. Only having looked through the new Minox LR at a recent CRPS shoot, I can say the glass in that scope was quite nice. So I can only imagine the ZP5 being greater!
