Hi all,
I am looking for a magazine for an old rifle. It is a remington "gamemaster" pump action rifle. Model 760, in 300 savage. It is a friends gun that is around 50 years old, maybe older, it used to be his Grandfathers. We would like to find a new magazine for it and getting working again. For sentimental reasons he would really like to take this rifle on a hunt or 2.
Thanks you for any direction you can give me on this.

They are in Edmonton, and stock ALL KINDS of rare, and obsolete parts for guns. Hell I asked them for a clip for my C.I.L. .22 that I have been looking for over 2 years, and they asked me if I wanted 5 or 10 round clips. I said Holy Crap Batman, not only did they have them, they had choices.
I haven't needed to look elsewhere for anything since I found them.

You may be able to find a magazine for another short cartridge (308, 243) easier. IIRC, the mag for the 300 Savage had a spacer block at the back, look for one similar to this as well.

I have a Model 760 in 300 Savage.
I have the original magazine that has (.300 Sav) stamped on it.

But when I bought it at Bow Lake Gun shop, I tried a bunch of
used 760/7600 mags until I found one that went in nice and easy.
And like another poster says it is has .243 Win stamped on it.

That backup mag feeds all makes of ammo that I've tried.
The original mag feeds Federal Shok but jams on Winchester.

So take your gun to a gun shop that has mags and try them...
buy a couple because you'll never know how they feed until
you get to a range.

You used to be able to get those mags in short, medium and long action.
Short had a spacer front and back, medium has a spacer at the back and long had no spacer. The short action mag was dropped somewhere around 20 or 25 years ago I think. The current short action (.308,.243)should work for the .300 Sav with no problem. You can try all the mags in the store to find one that works well for you if you like, but it would be better to have your mag properly fitted for the rifle that is going to carry it.

Thanks for the replies guys!
Western gun parts do not have one, but were nice enough to reply quickly to my e-mail. Small gestures like that go a long way with me. I hope I can send them some business later.

Question: Should a new replacement mag fit or should I be looking for an old one.

Also were should I start looking if I want to replace the stock on this rifle??

Thanks!

I'll check to see what I have. I am pretty sure I have one for a 6mm Rem that might work. PM me if you are still looking.
These mags are almost "drop-in", some minor fitting may be required.
I did it at moose camp for a guy with a chainsaw file...
