My dad is "considering" selling .his .243 Sako L579 heavy barrel, he is thinking about a lighter gun. The rifle shoots great, has an older leupold 3-9 with parallax adj, one gouge in stock and some bluing wear, it is a nice rifle but definitly also has some character from use. We were just wondering what it is realisticly worth. Thanks

Worth?

Realistically I would say you can expect to get anywhere from $500 very quickly to $750 not as quickly... if you post it for sale.

How bad's the throat, is the big question? 243s are fairly hard on throats in my experience, do you know how much it's been shot?
Dennis is right on IMHO considering the cosmetic condition, and I would say on the lower end. A friend of mine just picked up the identical rifle in mint condition for a Savage 99 in 308 and 100 bucks, nothing special about the Savage. You can get more if you catch the right guy at the right time, but you asked for a realistic value assessment.
