Hi guys,

I bought a remington 700 police in .308 a few months ago and haven't shoot it yet since it's still a the shop where I bought it for some modifications. I'm looking to buy a scope for long range shooting, may be up to 1000 yards this summer if everything works well. I was looking to buy the bushnell 4200 tactical 6.5-24x50. However, there is another scope that have kept my attention. It's the Leapers SWATmodel 6-24x56. It seems to be a very nice scope and it cost like a third of the bushnell's price wich is not really a factor here but since I'm still a student, if I get the same quality for the third of the price... I read some good feedbacks about the Leapers scope but it was on their own Internet site... I was wondering if some of you has one or tried one or heard comments about Leapers scope, please let me know. Also, if you have another scope in mind that could serves me well, let me know( please, no 1500$ scopes). And finally, is the bushnell 4200 tactical 6.5-25x50 would make a good choice?

Thanks for all.

Leapers are generally low end cheap crappy scopes. I'd go with the Bushnell, given those two choices.

Hey buddy,

Just out of curiosity, I picked up a used Leapers off a buddy for a low price.... they aren't very good. Try one of the Falcon Optics Menace series scopes. I hear they are decent and go for about 400-450

But the Bushnell Tactical is reallly nice, even for the $. I have one so am speaking from firsthand experience. I also have a 4200 Elite 6-24 x 40 which is every bit as good but maybe $100 cheaper, due in part I suppose to the 'normal' small scope knobs as well as the smaller glass.

Yeah, if you can't afford a Leupold or Nightforce, have a look at the Falcon
Menace. Great scope, great price, and great reviews.
Also, if you happen to come across one, a Super Sniper is a great scope too. They are built like the proverbial brick s&!thouse. I can vouch for that.
And don't worry that these scopes don't have a 22X magnification. For .308 you don't need it. 10X to 16X is plenty.

Leepers are chinese crap, second only to Barf-ska.

If you want to own the last scope you'll ever buy, consider Nightforce or Leupold.

this is just my experience with buying anything that's less what you'd rather put on your special rifle but don't because of price, YOU'RE DISAPOINTED WITH YOUR PURCHASE. Spend the money on good glass; be it a Leupold MK4 or a Nightforce. You won't regret it and it will outlive your gun if you take care of it.
If you buy something cheap, in the back of your mind, you're always questioning the scope. You know the gun shoots straight but the scope is the weak point so you're ability to shoot or lack there of is blamed on glass. That's a terrible way to practice. Spend the money, you will not regret it.

Depends on your wants and funds

I have 3 Bushnells 1) 6-24 X 40 4200 elite 1 " tube
2) 6-24 X 50 Tactical elite 33MM tube
3) 8-32 X 40 4200 elite 1" tube
I bought the #1 for a Ruger 220swift that i was shooting at 100 yds, it worked very nice, I used that combo last summer at a shoot and got 1st place at 300 yds. I later bought scope #2 as an upgrade for 1, i liked the bigger tube, definately a brighter picture and the zero on the knobs is resettable. Now i'm finding that precision shooting would be easier for me with a finer reticle , as you move back the reticle stays the same size but the target gets smaller and you end up covering what your trying to see.
I bought the 24's because i like the mil dot.
I got Scope #3 with an AR I bought it has a duplex reticle. The guy I bought it from had 3 of them.
Lifetime warrenty on the bushnell stuff. Probably the best scope for the money.
These usually run $700+ to $900ish. For the same specs with a leupold name you pay $1200 -$1500 but they are much clearer, hard to describe till you look through one for your self, you have to decide if you need the clarity for the shooting you,ll do, if you,ll spend most of your time at 100 yds shooting big yellow paper targets the bushnell is fantastic, if your gonna be trying to do head shots on gophers at 300yds spend the money on better glass.

If your new to scopes (i assume you are as you asked this question in the first place) avoid big dollar scopes till you know what you want and have had some experience with all the choices.
I have a fixed 10X Swarovski ontop of a 50 BMG that origionally cost around $2200 , i'm now looking at a Night Force that's gonna run me $2400 but its what i need.
You need to decide what you can live with but avoid no names.

Check the equipment exhange on here or PM me, one or more of mine might be available.

Thanks for all.

The new (not on the market yet) Bushnell 6500 4.5-30x50 tactical scope might be exactly what you are looking for. Should be available by the end of April.

You will hear much talk about Bushnells being crap and not worth the money - not reliable, poor warranty service etc, etc, etc. That may be true of the low end Bushnells but I have used the 3200 and 4200 and the older Bausch & Lomb scopes made by Bushnell and found them to be among the best available. Their optics are usually better than the Leupold VXIII scopes. I currently have a number of Leupolds on hunting rifles and a LR Leupold on one of my competition rifles which I like very much however because of it's price advantage and my previous experience with high end Bushnells the new 6500 should be on your short list.

You will also hear that Bushnells don't have enough elevation adjustment to reach 1000yds and that is true for the 3200 & 4200's without special rings or bases. The new Bushnell 6500 will have 93 minutes of elevation, more than enough to reach beyond 1000 yds and more than most other scopes in it's class. It's not that Bushnell doesn't know how to build a top end scope. The old B&L tactical was rated by many to be the best 10x tactical scope in the world for it's reliability, optics and very positive tactile elevation & windage adjustments. It also had an astounding 144 minutes of elevation . The new 6500 will have give you a choice of either a mil-dot or multiX reticle. The 6500 should retail for approx. $900.00

I have a 6500 on order and if it performs as I expect I will probably end up with two or three.

I'd agree as well, 4.5-14x 40mm or 50mm TMR reticle. This scope would be very close in price to the Elite 4200 or this new one coming out.

Thanks for the infos guys,

Since I can't afford a Nightforce or a Mark4 right now (I'm a student and I'm also looking to become an IPSC shooter), I guess I'll go with the Bushnell Tactical but I'll probably wait for the 6500 to be available.

Thanks for all,
Take care.
