Anyone have suggestions on where I can find a basic shooting mat? Rollup preferably.

I've got a couple of sources in the U.S. I can order from, but the shipping is a bit rough, and I'd prefer to keep the business at home if at all possible.

Thanks!

X2 for centerthegroup.
He will even embroider your name on it for a small extra cost.
Just about any colour you want too.

I am with Rhino on this. depending on the type of shooting you do will determine the mat requirement. Home depot carries those winter floor mats rubber coating on the bottom indoor/outdoor carpet on the top, works pretty well. if it is really muddy outside go to Canadian Tire and buy one of the 8-10 tarps.
They work in a pinch.

If your looking for a hi end palma mat check out creedmoors.

I also got mine from center the group. They sell a couple of different versions.I got the Tri-fold model.Very durable and well made.

man, I'm even cheaper, I just use green coloured Totes brand rollup fleece blanket that is weather-lined on the one side. Picked it up at the Totes outlet store in oregon.

I like guys that use blankets, sleeping bags and foam mats. They sop up the damp firing points so my shooting mat stays dry on the bottom:D

Wait for the spring opener and ask the guys here if they have an extra they would sell. I'd beat someone will have one (Gord's truck has two of everything), if not, use the clubs for that match, and pick one you like from the guys here (wings, no wings, etc) and ask him were to get one and cost. The club has a few spares...

See ya' at the Open House on May 7th at the SPRA range Island... going to Calgary (APRA) for the first shoot on April 29 & 30 with a memorial for John Howard after match, can't miss it, John was a good friend... instead of the Practise session (SPRA) on the same day.

I picked up a couple of mats from the last gun show in Calgary. I believe they were surplus drag bags. Heavy duty, almost bullet proof canvas topped with a thick layer of felt. I cut some seams to open her wide up and shifted the straps so she rolls up nice and tight.

I sewed my own mat about 10 yrs ago. I found a length of canvas, a closed cell foam camping mat (which I found in the ditch on the Transcanada!), some 1" straps and Fastex buckles. My mat has handles on the underside to carry it folded in three or four folds, and clips to keep it shut. For my elbows I found a strip of rubber sticky mesh. It is folded under 2 straps on the sides of the top end and held in place with cloths pins.

It works well.

Favourite is an old military surplus canvass rain poncho.
Cheap, waterproof(resistant),rolls or folds, has eyelets for staking and even seconds as a "rain poncho" with detachable hood.
Check out surplus stores.

maybe im crazy but for $75 on a matt from centerthegroup.com you can get a camp selfinflating mattarp and some shells for the day..........

Yep, that will work for a day of shooting. But if you spend hours on the range and are on the move from 300-1000 or in cases like the DCRA matches, where you move to 4 different ranges. You don't have time to deflate an air matress, pack it away one get to your next range.
Paul's mats are shipped to shooters world wide and are of the best quality you will find for serious competition shooters.

I think WRENCHGOD has a Blackhawk roll up sniper mat he is selling, it's new, he's selling because Tan is so Summer 2005. It is the one with the camel back slot up front.
