Howdy folks, I am going to start reloading black powder 44-40, I have most of my supplies sourced - with the exception of bullets.

I'll be looking for some soft lead, 200 grain bullets with black powder lube. I had planned on emailing Lois at Bullet Barn to see if she could make me a batch (their standard 200 grain .44-40 is hard lead (25 BHT) with smokeless lube) for black powder, but thought I'd check here first for options (casting myself is not an option at this point).

Thanks in advance and best regards

I've always cast my own. The hard cast commercial variety do not shoot well at BP velocities out of my rifle.
Pure, IE: soft lead is hard to come by for the scrounger.
Wheel weights are too hard.
Fogducker gave me a panel of lead shielding a while back, and that's all I have left at this point.
Cowboy action bullets are generally more expensive, but they are usually pure lead.
Most gun shops should be able to get them, but likely don't stock them.

You'll be best with pure lead or 30-1 and proper black powder lube, the opposite of what most smokeless shooters use.
