I have an SKS but a scope doesn't work well with it basically an SKS is a cheap plinker. Looking for a new rifle to put a scope on. What rifles work the best for a scope? The m16 style or some other type. Looking for an assault rifle tactical type gun that isn't to pricy(over $2000). $1200 range would be good wife wouldn't notice that amount missing. Could go as high as $1800. Any suggestions? It has to be non-restricted.

All the actual AR15s are restricted. If you want to stick to rifle calibers, there's not many that are halfway decent in that price range except the Benelli MR1 (although it's not great for scopes). You might be able to find a used RobArmx XCR-L in the $1,800-$2,000 price range.

An assault rifle? You're in the wrong hobby.. you need to join the armed forces.

If you don't care to shoot it outside of a range, you can get an AR or if you plan to hunt, maybe a nice bolt action rifle for that money.

Only option you have that is close to your budget is an used Robinson arm xcr.
A new xcr will cost at least $2300 before tax.

Can you also get cz858 or vz58 for $700 brand new. They can shoot both .223 rem or 7.62x39... Depends on what model you buy.

If you do not mind pistol calibre, then you can get the JR carbine in 9mm.
Or you can get the non resrticted version of beretta storm cx4.

m305 is in the price bracket, not a precision rifle, but throw an archangel m1a on it and a half decent scope. That'd cover the tacticool look IMO and more accurate than the sks for plinking.

Either that or a mini 14 thumbhole target with the harmonic balancer

Like already suggested XCR-L.I got one in .223 with a leupold AR 3x9 works great. Also don't call them Assault Rifles it scares certain people.I call mine a coyote gun. Good Luck.

We don't call them assault rifles because they aren't assault rifles.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with assault rifles, but none of these are and furthermore, 99% of us don't have access to them.

Yea also saying things like "looking for an assault type rifle for hunting" will likely get some nasty comments...

That being said, by "assault style" did you mean, a magazine loaded semi-auto rifle? If you want to take it hunting, get a favor, xcr, or pe90... I'm sure there a bunch of others

I am going to buy the following rifles:
CZ-858
Svt-40
Kel tec sub 2000
Mossberg 715T
Winchester 1897 trench gun

But I need a rifle with some accuracy. The XCR looks pretty good. If I spend or $2000 on a rifle I want to get a decent one. The others I listed above are just for fun and they are cheap. But I would like one decent rifle. I'm not much into bolt action rifles.

I agree completely, take a look at an M305 in a Black Feather Stock.

I just had a look at the black feather stock with the m305. That thing is awesome. I will be purchasing that setup for sure. That is what these forums are for helping a guy like me find a rifle that is not to much money and looks like it means business. Which scope would be best suited for it that isn't to pricey.

Might as well look at the scope that was designed for that rifle - the Leatherwood ARTII,
