Many years ago, I would visit Williams Gunsight in Davison, Michigan. They had a large retail store, a 100y range, and another building for commercial sales. In that building, I viewed a stack of the Russian 1895 Winchesters. They were a sorry lot, rode hard and put away wet.
I understand they went to Russia during WW1, then wound up in Finland and were used during the Finn's independence struggles. I suppose some were used again in 1940.
Williams used to publish a booklet on sporterizing military rifles, featuring their sights on the conversions. The '95s were featured.
