Hello everyone, I have recently just completed my Non restricted firearms training course. This was my first year hunting, strictly with a compund bow. Next year I would like to hunt some migratory birds with friends. Would also like to turkey hunt, and take part in the shotgun deer hunt next fall. Looking for suggestions on a possible shotgun I could purchase that would allow me to do all 3 of those hunts with one gun ! Any advice would be appreciated thanks in advance

so many choices these days and I am not up to speed on most LOL
But that said, hard to go wrong with a remington 870 with a 28"vent rib barrel and chokes for migratory birds and turkeys and a 18.5" iron sighted barrel for deer/bear. The 870 used to come with the two barrels as a package deal..... still might.

I second what the gentleman above said. Depends on your budget and if youre wanting a pump or semi-auto. Im not sure if 870s come with the 2 barrel combos anymore but I do know you can get Mossberg 500 Field/deer combo which come with 2 barrels. Or if youre looking for semi-auto the Beretta A300 Ultima are pretty decent and come with a few screw in chokes. There's also some cheaper semi-auto options if youre not looking to break the bank.

Get something good so you're not having to upgrade or sell in a year or few. I still have my first shotgun

My budget would be around 1200 or so I want to get a decent all around gun that I can keep in my collection as it grow, probably thinking semi auto just for the bird hunting aspect was looking at a Beretta or benelli but again my knowledge of firearms is basically nothing at this time

Where are you hunting?

Budget is a huge starting point but the geometry is the most important. Which gun fits you best? Keep your focus on the geometry and length of pull. When the gun is shouldered, can you look straight down the top of the receiver and barrel to see the bead clearly?

The Rem870 is a great generalist at a reasonable price. Benelli has some great pumps at a reasonable price and their higher end autoloaders are excellent. Browning and Beretta are also great choices.

Three things :

1. 22LR : Ruger 10/22 is best all round

2. 12 Gauge : Maverick 88 (does everything Mossberg or Remington does at 1/2 the price), get 18 and 26 inch barrels

3. Something in 0.3 caliber : endless debate to be had over 270, 308, 30-30, 30.06 etc., but 308 is likely the best all round option with a nice / reasonable Savage

You will, over time, enhance this load out and swap some things in / out, but the above is rock solid for a start and does not break the bank.
