Seeing lots of coyotes this deer season and thinking I better start knocking some down.

Looking for a reasonably priced caller.

Advice is welcome on what to buy.

I see lots for sale on Amazon and the reviews are all over the place

Also if you’re selling one I’m interested

Thanks.

In my experience if your hunting in an area with other varmit hunters using electronic calls, well they get educated pretty quick and theyre highly intelligent. You may luck out and kill some young of the year but the real killers are not gonna fall to the E call. Blowing mouth calls isnt really that hard and theres tons of videos but when you have them hunting you, everything needs to be perfect. The nice thing with a quality E caller is the volume. Patience is also a requirement. Been busted more than once thinking nothing was happening and stood up to see tail fur bootin it outah Dodge. Theres a member on here that makes some really beauty calls and sells them. Maybe Coyotecaller but not positive. The high end Fox pros and Wildlife technologies are what Ive hunted with and they work very well. Nice you can have them at a fair distance which is advantageous as it takes their eyes off of you but the wind is your enemy. Its a lot of fun in a time with not much else going on other then ice fishing which is also good.

Hey bubba, yes lots of coyotes this year for sure. I didn’t see any deer this season. To help the deer it is best to shoot the dogs just before the fawns hit the ground. But thinning them out all winter will help as well I’m sure.
I use a foxpro, not sure but I think it’s a patriot. I’d start with a cotton tail distress. If they hang up I’d play a pup distress. It will definitely bring them in. When you are done your stand, turn the caller off and glass the edges, tree lines sloughs etc. lucky duck makes some nice calls as well. I’ve only ever used foxpros. Also a mojo critter.
Geoff Nemnich has some good videos on YouTube. Gives some good tips on setup, wind direction etc.

the adults are very clever and not easy to fool they my come and stop out of site and play wait and see the only time caution is tossed a side is if a cold spell of about 2 weeks and 2 ft plus of snow then they are ruled by there stomach and not there brain here in sask we have weather like that sometimes worse
pup distress and other yote calls work well
i have called many in with old bellows scotch calls which i don't think are even made anymore i have shot many yotes over the last 45 years the pop never seems to diminish

When in doubt play Slim Whitman yodeling songs. Works like a charm.

BTW you need to be really old to know what I am talking about lol...

I am a Slim Whitman fan ( but my wife is NOT) but never thought of using him to call coyotes 😂, just might work. Many years ago I bought a fawn in distress call with plans to call coyotes and shoot them with my flintlock. Never did use it for coyotes but a buddy had a mule deer doe draw and I called a doe in from about 600 yards to 60 yards snd my buddy shot it with my flinter.

First thing I will tell you is do NOT buy any electronic calls from Amazon. There's the odd handcall on there that would do ok but besides that what is offered is low grade junk.
I think I'm the guy longstud is referring to in that I make custom handcalls for calling coyotes. That being said I will not pretend to be elitist in saying they are the only way to put fur on the ground. If you are looking for Ecalls the brands to buy are foxpro, lucky duck, or icotec, with honorable mention to primos. Pretty much all of what they offer will call coyotes but the lower priced options will have less sounds and volume. For premium sound models get foxpro from MFK. Lucky duck from Rick at verminator predator calls and icotec from Tony tebbe at predator university.
If you want to dip your toes in the water a good open reed and closed reed handcall can go a long ways. I make custom wood and acrylic calls but even some mass produced calls can get the job done if your on a budget.
I'm always game to talk coyotes and calls so if you have any questions don't hesitate to ask.
Here's a pic of my current lanyard of calls to give you an idea. 1000001839.jpg

Awesome pic. You are who I was referring when I mentioned the beautiful handmade calls. I will send you a pm about purchasing some .The deer population in my area has been severely depleted in the last ten or more years. Coyotes, bobcats and blackbear numbers have soared. Black bears are the biggest fawn killers going because of their super keen sense of smell! Get out and put some fur down.

Coyote hunting has quickly become one of my favourite hunts, in fact it doesn't matter what I am hunting, if a coyote shows up, it is now a coyote hunt! I started years and years ago with basic fawn in distress calls, graduated up to the Randy Anderson series from Primos, and then into my first FoxPro, and now have some custom calls made by some of our esteemed members here. Now I go afield with my FoxPro and an assortment of mouth calls, I am not afraid to switch from one to the other if things aren't jiving right or if one hangs up sometimes it just needs that little extra coaxing. Get out there and try it, good luck and let us know how you make out!

Thanks! The deer herd out this way isn't doing very good either and no matter how many I kill there still seems to be more and more coyotes! Luckily no bears to contend with though. If you don't see what you want on my website I'm slowly trying to get it stocked back up.

Yotarunner is great to deal with & was very helpful & right on with recommending what I considered essential calls for just staring out after doing some research myself.

I bought several of his handmade calls last year & they're quality gear.

Wasn't able to get out & use them much last winter (because life gets in the way) but have had plenty of time to practice with them for this upcoming season.

Used to be a chap up here that bought a e-caller that spun.
He put it up on his roof and started calling intge Wileys.
I was stunned by how fast that thing had return replies and the replies were getting louder.
Out of my budgit.

Man i miss these posts that were an all-winter affair on the PHC forum

Kerry Carver makes insane custom wood calls (or used to, not sure anymore). I have three or four of his and they were relatively inexpensive at the time.
