Looking for a new spotting scope, something reasonably compact for mountain hunting and excellent clarity. Swarovski seems like the obvious answer however the price is retarded. What are peoples opinions on Nikons. Never been excited by a bushnell.

Willing to spend up to $750 ish?????

Camera Land Pentax PF-65ED. Under $600 shipped with 20-60x eyepiece.

I couldn't find anyone in town that has one...I'm taking a chance but I looked at a Nikon and was told the Pentax is better. I'll let you know what it's like when I get mine if you want.

I have the compact 65ED spotting scope and am very happy with it. As a compact for carrying, the optics are right up there with the top brands.

However, the zoom that comes with it is not eyeglass friendly at all. Also, you start to loose clarity once you go past 40X. Still very good but nothing like 40X and lower.

It is not the fault of the scope but of the eyepiece. I exchanged for the eyepiece from the larger 80mm spotting scope. Works alot better for eyeglass users but not perfect.

The clarity is definitely better above 40X and have been able to see the bark structure on pine trees 2000yds away on a clear winter day.

Because I now use the spotting scope more for the range then hunting/packing, I will be going to the larger heavier 80mm or even the 100mm versions.

If interested in a like new Pentax, send me a PM.

Damn Mystic, and Epoxy told me to talk to you...if I'd have known how to search for you I would have bought it off you. Ah well, I'm using mine for hunting & the range so the 65mm is fine for me + I don't wear glasses so the eyepiece hopefully will work for me:D I'm not too fussy so I'm sure it will fill my needs just fine!

looks like it's at the post office...I'll get it tonight and let you know how it is! WOW 1 week delivery from NY to Calgary...fast!
