Looking for advice on a purchase

Hi all

I would like to buy a 9mm but I'm torn between a sig p226 and a glock 17. It will be my first pistol I purchase, however I am very familiar with the sig. I have limited experience with the glock (only fired a couple mags through it) and haven't used it enough to form an educated opinion on it.

Just looking for some help to weigh the pros and cons of both to make my decision.

The best gun to buy is the one that you feel most comfortable shooting. I shoot a P226 but tried many brands first and found the Sig felt the best for me.
 
Much appreciated guys. I'm leaning a little more towards the glock just due to the price. As well the wife has been anxious to learn how to shoot a pistol and I'm wondering if a glock would be a little easier for her to handle?

Good point on sticking with what I'm comfortable with though.

I am a big M&P fan, but between your choices I would say the SIG over the Glock. The 226 is more "stable" in my opinion because of the weight. Repeat target acquisition is better (better groups). To each their own though. Nothing against Glocks, just not MY personal preference. Also dont make the mistake of trying to save a couple hundred bucks. Buy what you like he first time (again my opinion only). Good luck!
 
I really, really like Glocks but as a first pistol for your wife it might be not the best choice. Their light weight makes for quite snappy recoil--even in 9mm--that can be off-putting to the new shooter. For sure, new shooters can be trained to shoot well with a Glock, so if your wife approaches it with an open mind it could work out well. As Bitumen mentions above, the M&P line is also a good choice. I've got one in .40 and I find the recoil more pleasant than a 9mm Glock--the grip is more ergonomic and it's a wee bit heavier. The SIG would also be a good choice--I've got one in .357SIG and even that is nice to shoot.

My experience with the .40 Glock was way "poppier" than the 9mm lol.
 
Ahh I C agreed on that my friend. I feel the same way :) I dont know what it is with the Glock with me. I just cant find the love (of course my experiences only)

Good advice, my wife was enthralled with the lightness of the Glock until she tried to shoot it, she shoots a Ruger 38 Blackhawk now that is quite heavy and doing great
 
I love my Glock 17, my wife hates it. She hasn't tried any other handguns, but now I'm afraid she won't. Oh well, she still likes shooting rifles :)

I chose the Glock after shooting the Sig, M+P, M92, CZ75, and even a 1911. The Glock wasn't the most comfortable grip until I learned how to hold it right. I like the grip angle and love with bore axis,which makes every other gun feel wrong and harder to control to me. I know I can and will learn to shoot other pistols well, but for now the Glock is all that I need until I've mastered it. Having the Advantage Arms 22lr kit for it makes it much more economical to practice trigger control and grip with, even though the gun is considerably lighter when wearing the 22 slide.
 
I appreciate the input guys. I have yet to try the s&w m&p but I'll have the chance next week at the range so I will definitely wait t make my decision til after I have tried it.
 
IMO...buy the one that "fits" you. If they are both equal (in your hands) then get the G17. You can't go wrong with a Glock and it'll be easier on your wallet (like you mentioned).Let the wife shoot it and if she doesn't like the recoil after a few range sessions get her a .22lr(GSG?)
2 HG's are always better than one.....:)
 
They're both good, accurate and reliable. Both top tier service pistol imo. In the end, the best one will be the one you prefer.

I've owned both in the past but I still own the P226. I prefered SIG DA/SA over the GLOCK's "safe action" trigger. The SIG also felt better in my hands.

It's all personnal preference, choose wisely :)
