Any gunnutz willing to give an opinion for a holster for concealed carry.
I have a Uncle Mikes size 5 vertical shoulder holster made of cordura nylon, which fits 4.5"-5" large barrel autos (mine being a CZ85 or FEG). It's not a great holster, but it's inexpensive. Are there better ones available?
Thanks

yes. it really comes down to time and money. do you want iwb, owb, another shoulder rig?

leather? kydex? hybrid of both? want a good holster? do you have the right kind of belt? there is a big difference between a gun-belt, and the kind that holds your pants up. need mag pouches with that? want them to match? do you want to be able to adjust the cant of the holster?

Thanks for the advice, but I'm about to really show my ignorance in this area.
Whats iwb or owb? Inside waistband, outside waistband?

Join www.glocktalk.com and check out their Carry Issues forum. They have a lot of opinions on what to look for in a good holster, which materials are best, and who is the best manufacturer. Apart from IDPA rigs, I don't know if many of us Canucks are truly qualified to give an opinion on CCW rigs - even the Canadians that CCW while in the States aren't doing it 365 days a year.

yes.
iwb= inside waisband
owb= outside waistband

iwb can be harder to find one that fits you and is comfortable due to size and shape of body, style of dress, etc..... your pants need to be a little looser around the waist than normal for your holster to fit in there, and it has to be comfortable so that your gun isn't digging in to to your side. owb is easier to put on with any pants you wear.

what type of shooting are you planning to do? defensive/ practical drills, just want something for plinking?

i currently use a milt sparks versa max 2

with a wilderness tactical 5 stitch belt

i'll post some pics in a few days if you want.

it works well, and is very comfortable. the cost is substantially higher, but putting a thousand dollar gun in a 15 dollar holster on a 25 dollar belt won't do you any good or stand up to wear and tear if your going to be doing a lot of shooting. kydex is a good option over leather to save some cost. blade-tech has good stuff, so does com-tac.

other considerations are: do you want the holster for just one of your guns? or does it need to be able to fit a few different types?
