Gentlemen and Ladies (as the case may be) I've recently started shopping for a small game firearm. As it is, I've looked at a single shooter combo in 22lr /410 ..specifically the Baikal and another single shot 410 (the maker escapes me presently). I like the Baikal for a couple of reasons... namely the versitility and the the fact I can mount an optic (front and rear sight included) if I wanted or needed to, and it can be broken down and transported easy. The other single shot 410 had a single bead front sight (no rear), the pro for this was the price... like $180.00 vs the Baikal at over $500.00. I own a couple of 12 gauges already.. 870 and 887 so I have the upland game issue covered not to mention a couple of 22lr's . What I'm looking for is something that I can take on a walk in the bush that has the versitility to take everything from rabbit to spruce grouse and be a good around camp gun for unwanted critters.

My thanks for your suggestions in advance.

I think the other one you are thinking of is the Rossi.
Never handled one, but for the price I think it could be a lot of fun.
Savage used to make the Model 24 combo gun, pretty nice but are worth $4-500 used, now.
Savage is now making the Model 42, I'm not sure if I think it looks great or hideous.
One or the other, there is no middle ground.

See if you can find a nice single shot (cooey or other) 20 gauge with a full choke. Shouldn't be hard to find at all. It'll do everything you want it to. Blast through bush and still have the power to take out whatever you're shooting at and with the full choke, you should be able to take rabbits at 40 yards with ease. Also, they are very light and easy to carry all day long plus slugs/buckshot are easy to find for the unwanted critters around the camp.

Thank you to those who posted, I do like that savage arms... ugly in a way I'm not worried about dingin it up bush bashing... Like the synthetic stock on it. Now I need to wait for one on E&E, if I can ever get signed up to it.
