Looking for advice

I have two pump shotguns that were passed along to wife and I.
We do alot of camping and kayaking in our area and I was thinking of converting one of these to a shorter model so I could have one in the kayak.
I don't have any experience with a pump shotgun but I have shot a 12 gauge before when I was younger living on the farm.
The top shotgun in the picture is a 1956 production model 12 Winchester full choke, takes only 2 3/4 inch shells.
Bottom one is a 1975/76 Lakefield Mossberg 500AB, full choke, takes 2 3/4 and 3 inch shells.

I'm not sure which shotgun I should look at putting a pistol grip with folding stock ( I like the Butler creek side folding stock that holds 3 shells).
Or is this even worth doing any of this?
There is a vast knowledge of people here and though I would see if I could get some opinions if this is a good idea or not.

Personally I would leave them stock and just buy a 8.5" or 12.5" grizzly if you want someting compact.

Leaf the Winchester alone.
The Mossbergs are found plentiful.
Plus, it shoots three inch shells if that's your flavour.

I agree. Winchester model 12's are great guns & should not be butchered.

I see that the grizzly's are pretty cheap and will go with that route.

No aftermarket acceries for the model 12 . Plenty for the mossberg . They are both worth about $300.00 so value makes no difference . The mossberg will be substantially lighter .

Sell those guys, and buy one that's already been modified or brand new. Lots of guys chop their guns up and then realize it's not all it's cracked up to be.

Yes. Plentiful on the EE. Many having very low round count.

Edit. There is a Mossberg 500A JIC for sale for $325 shipping included for sale right now on the EE. Not worth butchering yours for that price.
