So, I bought this LEE ..... Challenger (I think) single stage press. I'm new to rifle loading so the learning curve is almost vertical.
The question is .... How do I fix the press to dump the primers into the little catch tube? There is an opening that should direct the spent primers into the collection tray but on the opposite side, there is a long groove in the ram that is just too easy for the spent primer to fall through. Any suggestions appreciated. I tried turning ram 180 degrees and it just dumped the primers on the floor on the opposite side.
Thanks!

That long groove is there to attach the primer arm that needs to be kept attached to the ram in order for the spent primers to be deflected thru the "chute" instead i.e. the hole on the other side of the ram and drop down the tube.

Was that supposed to come with the press? Thanks!

If you don't want to put on the priming arm you can fill the channel with putty or something similar.

I hand prime and don't want the priming arm in the way so just blocked up that side on my RCBS press.

If you bought the press new then yes. Likely in a cardboard backed blister pack with large rifle and small pistol primer arms. They look like angled pieces of flat metal with a spring loaded button on one end. As others have said you need them in the press or the primers just fall on the floor.

These need to be in...

Thanks everyone! I have the part in the photos, just didn't know what it was called. I hand prime also so I'll do the putty thing.

Thanks again!

Attachment or removal of the primer arm takes just a second. Moreover, that is far less of a hassle compared to dealing with putty (for example) when it comes to press cleaning/maintenance chores. :)

I use a Lee Classic Cast for deprime/resize tasks only. The primer arm simply stays on the press but never gets used since I use a hand primer.
