I put a Limbsaver recoil pad on my stock. All I really had to do was the tricky straight cut with a chop saw (not tricky if you know the trick) as my original stock had a curved buttplate. If I recall I believe I ordered a pre-fit pad for a Savage wooden stock and it lined up withing a 1/2 mm. I would have to check that.
The nice thing about pre-fit limbsavers is that they have the dimensions on the website, so you just have to measure your stock and find one that is really close.
I went with a different barrel clamp, one that didn't "dip" the mag extension like the one in the picture does. I also used a one-piece mag-extension. A set of fibre-optic (tru-glo? I think) replacements for remington rifle sights really helped.
