Hello all, looking for opinions on optics. I am waiting for my Ruger Scout Rifle to come in, and am in the process of research for the right glass. I was recommended to Leupolds extended eye relief scopes. Particularly VX-3 Handgun 2.5-8x32mm. I was tracking some other threads and even though originally looked at for pistol, in the US allot of folks were having success, especially looking out a bit further than the traditional fixed magnification traditional scout scopes. Primary use for rifle will be hunting, however wish to avoid traditional scope mount, so that I can retain the iron sights position. Would appreciate all thoughts on recommended glass, and scope types. I have always been partial to Leuopold, due to warranty, but would be willing to explore other brands. As well trying to keep price reasonable, as like most not made of money...lol..max $1000, but would prefer to be closer to $500. VX-3 scope previously mentioned retails approx $600-700. Much appreciated, and looking forward to your thoughts.

I've read many positives about the nikons on here. Is there a store you can go check scopes out at? We can give you model names and then you can look for a store with them in stock so you can have a look yourself..

Was looking into some of the write ups, and there looks as if there are some issues with durability. After so many rounds etc, a large % of the scopes are loosing zero. My search continues. I you hear of anything else please let me know. Thanks again

I'm impressed with my my current production Weavers, K4 and K6 with aluminum bodies, made in Japan, so I'll be trying their K4 Scout (4x28mm.) I have no trouble using 4x and 6x with both eyes open so I don't think 4x will be too much for me when mounted with longer eye relief.
