I'm looking for an air pistol that shoots just under 500fps (495). I have my PAL i just don't want to have to use it at an approved range. The big deal here is that I DONT want it to be c02. It seems that would be a pain in the ass to always be buying c02 cartridges. So a spring one would be better. Any suggestions?

Crosman 1377 is probably your best bet.
Accurate, hard hitting and below 500 fps.

PS. If you change your mind about C02 pistols then definetly buy the steel storm.

Zoraki HP-01 or Webley Alecto. Same gun sold under both names.

It is a variable power pneumatic. One stroke is ideal for indoor plinking at 10 yards or so, while two or three strokes will increase the power level.
It has an ergonomic grip, with an adjustable palm shelf, and lefty grips are available if needed.

Mine is in .22 cal. and will shoot a 14.3 grain pellet at 470 FPS with only two strokes.

I purchased a Crossman 2289G a few months back but have been really disappointed in it.

Max speed I have gotten out of it is 345 fps, advertised at 495 fps. Manual says max of 10-12 pumps but that gave me about 200 fps. It took about 35 pumps to get my max velocity, more than 35 seemed to make no difference. The barrel is now loose on the body and a few other problems.

From my experience you cannot cheap out on an airgun. Expect to pay more than a conventional rimfire to get a decent air pistol.

I have an old Ruko Gamo piston spring gun that I used to shoot a lot. Lever under the barrel to #### it. I would recommend something like that for recreational shooting. It's fired thousands of shots, good adjustable sights and adjustable trigger. You should be able to hit a dime at 10 yards if you have a steady hand. Diana has similar pistols also.

Sillymike, what's that scope mount on your Baikal? If that's a barrel-mount, it looks like exactly the solution I need to scope my old FWB65. Where did you get it?

Try the Wiehrauch pneumatics. Just over $200 for the HP40. Or if you want a really powerful one the HW45 pushes a 22 cal at just under 500 fps (for close to $500). It's a spring gun though so much harder to shoot accurately. D&L or Specialty Shooting Sports Outdoors.

I used to shoot Both pistol and rifle for my club when I lived in the UK and used a 5 shot FWB pistol in competition. Great pistol but a bit pricey.

For practice I stumbled on a Gamo Compact which was a single pump pneumatic. I remember this pistol being really accurate and very consistent, particularly considering the sub $300 price tag. It came with nice walnut grips that were adjustable ( providing your mitts were not the size of hams)

I really miss that Gamo!!!

Specialty Shooting Sports-good to deal with.
Weihrauch HW 45, 177 cal. $369
.22 replacement barrel $35.75 can be bought here along with extra springs, seals and other parts.
1911 grips will fit this gun, holsters won't. Have heard that cordless drill holsters work.
No problems with mine, accurate.

I own a Walther CP99 and love it. Mind you it is c02. I took it to a paintball outdoor range, and on the radar managed to achieve 361fps. I've killed a grouse with it. Looks cool, pretty accurate ( although there are many more accurate guns than this one ) and fairly cheap.

Add the flat top valve and piston from scopesandammo. Its relatively cheap and will add serious punch to that gun.

Hey Windage,

The Steel Storm looks like a nice gun, and the price is very good. Have you fired it? Is it reasonably accurate?

Have you considered PCP (pre-charged pneumatic)? They are the current popular models among competitive shooters, and would open up a whole bunch of choices for you. They do cost more than the hand crank, but are a lot more convienent. The detachable and rechargable (via scuba tank or hand pump) cylinders can usually power around 120 to 150 shots before going low.

I don't know what your budget is, but I am really happy with my Baikal 46M. It has a fully adjustable trigger and I have it set up very close to a .22 that I use for bullseye shooting so it works well for a trainer. It isn't cheap, but it is really amazing to shoot. It is really easy to #### and load as well, no charging, pumping or keeping co2 around. Very well made pistol. It is a match pistol so not sure if it meets your requirements or not.

if you just want something that is acurate and cheap ,look for a marksman 2004 ,they go for around $50 new have a adjustable trigger and are a single stroke pneumatic crazy accurate and feels good in your hand.I have all sorts of pistols and it is more accurate than a webley huricane or my tempest(my only spring pistols costing 6x as mutch) the co2 stuff is by far the most accurate and powerful in this class, the EB .22 is good or the HB .22 if you dont mind pumping .or find a old crosman mark 1 .dont worry about the co2 it's cheap now .you can get 25x12 gram from wallmart for $12 bucks.your arm would be gone before you could use $2 of co2 on a pump or spring pistol ,you will get 35shots per charge that's 140 shots for $2 actually my mark1 gets 50 shots on low power 400fps and 33 shots on hi power 485 fps.unless of course you want a full on target pistol then the 46m is a great choice .

anyway hope this helps ,cheers Roger
