Looking for an air pistol

I suggest you try and find a Webley Tempest in .177 cal. Mine is almost 30 years old and is still highly accurate out to ten yards. It's also been an effective solution for problem squirrels steeling bulbs out of our garden. Kept it well oiled and have had no problems to date - touch wood!.

I'm looking for a higher end target model... and might consider purchasing a used pistol if one becomes available.

Kawarthapine.

i have a pump action air pistol that shoots however much prssure you feel safe pumping into it.. im pretty sure i still see these at canadian tire.. the crossman.. some kits come with a buttstock for it and pistol grip.. not a bad pellet gun.. just dont break your seals or it wont shoot 100 fps

I bought a 1377 from cdn tire. Was getting about 350 fps on 10 pumps. Swapped out the valve and piston for a flat top and that brought me to about 600 fps so I then swapped out the .177 barrel to .22 and its now just under 500 fps shooting a .22 pellet. Think I paid about $80 for the gun, about $30 for the flat top valve and piston and about $15 for the barrel. Its quite accurate too. (bought all the parts from scopesandammo)

By the way, those seals look to be just orings. I bought an oring kit from princess auto when they were on sale and 1 of the oring sizes is perfect for the flat top valve and piston in the 1377. Its held out so far for quite a few shots and if it goes again, big deal, it will cost me about 15 minutes work and about 5 cents for another oring from the kit.

I purchased a Crossman 2289G a few months back but have been really disappointed in it.

Max speed I have gotten out of it is 345 fps, advertised at 495 fps. Manual says max of 10-12 pumps but that gave me about 200 fps. It took about 35 pumps to get my max velocity, more than 35 seemed to make no difference. The barrel is now loose on the body and a few other problems.

From my experience you cannot cheap out on an airgun. Expect to pay more than a conventional rimfire to get a decent air pistol.

It is because the forward screw that holds the body for the bolt on there is a ridiculously small screw with a very fine thread. This is where the air is blowing straight up into the bolt body, especially with 35 pumps. It's a bad design imo, I had 1377's and 1322's and the seals get eaten away very quickly at this point, requiring you to field strip the whole bloody gun to get a new seal in there, and you probably would have to recheck the zero after. I also had one gun where the threads stripped out of that darned gd hole. If I had another go-around with one I would probably put in a more robust seal in there. Has anyone had luck with brass seals in there with lock-tite or something like that?

Also you might want to try putting another clamp forward of the bolt body to help keep it together better at this point.
