Good afternoon,

I need some help determining a value.

I have a Tikka Whitetail Deluxe Rifle m695, originally chambered in 300 Win Mag. Several years ago I had Ron Smith build and install a 27” SS gain twist barrel chambered in 257 Weatherby Magnum. Well, for every reason under the sun, I have never even shot the rifle nor have I hardly looked at it! I’m now thinking of selling it, any idea on value? It does have the walnut stock and the rosewood accents, as well as a blued receiver. Any help greatly appreciated.

Tim.

You generally don't gain much in value with a rebarrel, as you could just have bought a factory barreled rifle in that caliber (maybe not your specific model, but in comparison)

Having said that, a gain twist cut rifling with zero rounds through should add a little bit of value. I would ask maybe $200 over what it would sell for with the 300WM barrel on it, unless it has a fancy finish or is fluted or something.

Personally IMO I don't think it's worth as much as a new quality tikka ( maybe if the model is preferred ) - I would get a guarantee with a new rifle for any defects or even accuracy guarantee

Well - In the case of Tikkas, older is generally better - ie the M65's are held in higher regard than the M695's and the 695's to the T3's. Since yours is the Deluxe, an original example in excellent condition would likely go for +\- 1000$. The rebarrel is a big uncertainty - unless someone was really hot on the calibre, it doubt the value added would be more the +/- 150$. If you still have the original factory barrel, its probably worth +/-150$ if its low mileage.

Unfortunately when gain twist barrels sit for years without have being shot the gain twist unwraps and distorts slightly... I'll take that off your hands for a couple hundred... ;-)

Ya, and if you shoot them too much the gain tightens down a caliber and who ever heard of a 256 Weatherby?

Maybe hang on to it,some day when Ron is no longer with us it might fetch a bit more.I think he is the only one still gain twisting barrels and doing rebore's.
