I know there are people here who own mini-14's, I have one that I got basically as a box of parts. After putting it all together I realized that it was missing the buffer guide rod and the spring that goes on it. The backstory is obvious here to anyone who knows mini-14's...
Here comes the sad part - it is a 181 series, and I already made the mistake of ordering a rod/spring from Brownell's which of course was the wrong part (although the spring is probably fine). To my woe and dismay it seems all but impossible to find parts for a 181, and I have not been able to find one to date anywhere.
It looks like I will have to resort to making my own, perhaps modifiying the 196 series rod that I do have. Does anyone here have a 181 mini-14 that can help me? I can't seem to find any info online about this specific part. The problem is obviously that the little 'shovel' end is different on the 181, there doesn't seem to be the cross-pin that they show in the manuals that I can dig up for all the other models.
Anyone? Obviously if you know of a source for this part that would be awesome, but at this point I am thinking I will need pix and specs of a 181 rod from somebody that already owns one so I can 'make' my own.
