Hi,
I'm in search of a reliable source of blank ammunition in different calibers.
I do not intend buying in bulk - 50-100 max at a time

Looking for:
9mm/.38cal
8mm

12ga *short* shell

Regarding the 9mm, I have this question to ask:
I found a source for 9mm IVI, but the device I use specifically state 9mm/.38cal. Is there a big enough difference between the two that would prevent the use of the IVI ones?

For the record, these would be for use in a Blank Firing Grenade

Thanks for your help!

Sounds like a proprietary blank cartridge they want you to use. The most common 8mm round is 8x57mm Mauser which is far too large for something like that. 9mm usually means 9x19mm but I know there are weird 9mm blanks used in several European blank guns that wont chamber properly in a 9x19mm firearm. The most common .38 is the .38 special but I doubt that's what you're after since it's totally different from a 9x19mm.

The IVI blanks are going to be 9x19mm blanks meant for real firearms. If those things want the weird European 9mm blanks then the 9x19mm ammo wont fit (and will likely be too powerful).

Is there a reason you aren't just using 209 shotshell primers? They're much easier to find.

*edit*
The European 9mm blanks are known as 9mm P.A.K rounds. They are available from various sporting goods stores for dog training. I've seen them at my local SAIL Outdoors store before in 50rnd boxes. They are purpose designed to be incompatible with real firearms.
I also found hits for "8mm blank gun ammo" when Googling around. I've never heard of them before but they're identical other than being an 8mm straight walled case instead of 9mm.

Looks like Fiocchi, Umarex, Ozkursan, and Walther make them both. There are most likely other brands as well.

Canada Ammo has the Ozkursan 9mm ones listed as in stock. $19.99/50 or $149.99/500

Hey Lutnit, thanks for the reply
I appreciate the help. And yes it gets confusing fast, at least for me

I know about the Pak ammo already, as a matter of fact I already have a box here.

However, they won't fit in the so called 9mm/.38 inserts
From what I've seen, what they call 9mm/.38 look like .38cal, crimped and rimmed (or maybe semi-rimmed?)

While the PAK are rimless and probably longer than what they use over there in those devices

To explain things better:
The insert where the blank is loaded can accept those 9mm/.38 thingy, as well as 8mm (whatever they are), in the same "hole"
So the inserts opening is definitely 9mm, but maybe at 3/4 down, the insert is "flared" and reduces to 8mm (preventing the 9mm Pak to go down all the way). And this "flare" is what keeps the 8mm centered appropriately (longer than the 9mm they use for that)

I've seen a video review of the grenade where the reviewer uses blanks from perfects hot (US based), and it seems he uses regular 38cal shells, but I'm not totally sure

Regarding using 209 primers: I do have a box of these as well. While they work great for indoor/cqb environment, I wanted to have an option of using blanks with a hit more punch for outdoor uses.

Considering all that, if I were to try and find regular 38cal blanks, where should I look?

(I don't think I will ever find them in Canada but what about these short 12gauge?)

Again, I really appreciate the help, thank you!

The only 38 special blanks I've seen are black powder so you'd have a lot of cleaning to do after. I haven't seen them in a while but my local LeBarons did carry them some years ago. They are even longer than the 9mm PAK as far as I know though. Maybe 9x19mm blanks will work? 9x19mm brass is easy enough to find; could try seating one in it to see if it fits. If it does, the 9x19mm IVI blanks may work.

I did a quick Google search and found pics of short 38 special (maybe 1/2 or 2/3 length) blanks available in the US. No idea where to buy them in Canada.

I've never even heard of those shorty 12ga blanks before. I can only find them for sale in the UK.
I've seen normal sized 12ga blanks at gun shows but that doesn't help.

"9mm/.38cal" sounds like a European designation.
DO NOT USE REAL FIREARM BLANK AMMO IN AIRSOFT TOYS. Doubt you'd get that adapter through Customs anyway.
Winchester makes what they called Popper Loads. Full sized 2.75". 12 Ga. blank used for field trials(and big kids playing silly bugger in a green uniform. snicker.). Function exactly like a live round and are not a toy. Blew a pumpkin apart with one, long ago. Listed on their site with BP or smokeless. Wholesale Sport lists 'em at $29.99 per 25. They make .38 Special blanks using smokeless, not BP, too. Runs about $40US Stateside. No idea who might carry it here.
Marstar lists surplus IVI 9mm Parabellum blanks. $149.00 per 960 round case.
Any 8mm Mauser, that Airsoft toy grenade thing does not use, blank will be a collector cartridge. The 8mm blank the toy uses is a handgun blank that is a rimmed cartridge. Made by Fiocchi et al for prop gun etc. Not much demand here so it's likely not readily available.

Do you reload, or know anyone who does? You could try making your own blanks. While your initial outlays will be far more expensive than simply buying blanks, a 38 crimp die can and standard reloading components can enable you to make your own, and you can vary the powder charge based on the application. I suspect, depending on projectile, that too much juice in the case could turn your less than lethal grenade into a more than lethal one, so if you don't have any experience reloading, maybe stick to the store bought stuff.

38 doesn't necessarily mean 38 special. The stubby 38s I found pictures of look more like a 38 S&W or a 38 Short colt.

Nope I don't reload and have no experience on that field either; Besides, I won't deploy those grenades often enough to justify the upfront cost for the rigs etc
But thanks for the suggestion

So long story short, I feel like I'm not much closer to y goal... I'll try contacting the makers and see if they can clarify a few things

All in all, I appreciate the help though, thanks!

Yeah I think they found the term "trmr" interesting and tried to find an excuse to name it that way, came up with "maritime" for the M and went from there. :p it looks like some bad attempt at marketing

And thanks for your concerns, safety comes first for the people I play with and myself
I like my fingers where they are

Would the 9x17 rounds for a Blitz gun work if so you can buy them in some agriculture stores. They come in several strengths but only red and green seem to be sold here. Also try a vet clinic for large animal practice is where I buy mine.

I have some IVI .308 Canadian Military, 1978 Blanks on a Stripper clip, Stamped IVI, a symbol of cross hairs I think & 78. if interested. & Yes, the blanks you need were available at stores that sell the 9MM/380 Blank gun here in Canada. Like the 9MM PAK but made for Revolvers instead of mag fed blank guns. They have them around. Ark Army in Toronto had them.
