Hey guys. I'm a casual shooter that's been going through different iterations of my 10/22 for a couple years. My latest monstrosity has been set up for competition in the prone at short ranges (25ish yards). I recently purchased a Hawke 4-12x40 AO and I quite like it but I'm having some issues with my buttstock set up and would like some opinions.
Currently on the gun is an MDT Composite Carbine Stock with an adjustable riser. I have the adjustment bottomed out and it works, most of the time. I do feel a bit squished using it.
I have a Magpul adjustable stock with added riser that is more comfortable but I was wondering if that would be considered too sloppy to use since it adjusts via the buffer tube and has some play when "locked in". Is that something that would affect accuracy? The MDT uses spacers and is otherwise static.
Another solution is higher rings. I currently have Weaver high rings but I could get some in extra high. Is that going too high though?
Ultimately buying a bolt gun would be best but it is not in the budget. I'm just trying to use what I have. We had a competition locally and I managed to get 4th out of 13 competitors in my division, many of them running bolt guns and I'm looking forward to more.
Anyway, I would appreciate feedback on my thoughts and thank you for taking the time to read.
