cannon for deer

I saw a video awhile back where some hunters in the US were using a cannon filled with giant buckshot to shoot deer with.
Needless to say ,it was "enough" gun........

I've used a variety of loads on deer in the 30-30, and the 45-70.
My '94 Winchester likes the 170FP Lee gas checked with H4895 at about 1900fps. That load has shot end to end through a whitetail doe, at about 25 feet.
The 45-70, I've used the 340 grain Gould style Hollow point from Lyman, with R7, or H4198. Ive used loads with velocities over 2000 fps, with a cotton wad under this plane base bullet, but I get better accuracy at 1900.
I've also used the Lee 500 grain gas checked bullet, with 3031, R7, and H4198. This load can hurt at both ends, particularly when loaded above 1900 fps. Best accuracy for me, was below 1850.
I load cast for 44 Mag for my wifes 96 Ruger She took a doe last year, but didn't have a cast load in it at the time.
I also load cast 44-40 for my 92 Winchester I've taken deer with it, but not with cast yet, been working on the load, it's improved greatly of late, and will likely go to the field this season with cast loads.
I've had no issues with using cast bullets on deer, but i will note that all my cast bullet kills to date have been at very close range.

Here are some of the loads I use:
45/70- 365 Ranch Dog - 52gr Varget 1650fps Very accurate
- 425 Ranch Dog - 50 gr Varget
- 405 Lee 32gr IMR4198 1425 fps accurate
- 405 Lee 25gr 2400 1450 fps
- 340 Lee 50gr 3031 2050 fps
- 405 Lee 51gr 3031 1750 fps
The bullets made from the Ranch Dog molds are gas checked, tumble lubed and sized .460 I have had great luck with the Ranch Dog bullets.

30/06 - 180 Lee - 37gr 3031 2200 fps
180 Lee - 26gr RL7 1800 fps Very Accurate

I have some bullets I cast for the 303 ... hope to try them out soon.
