Just because there are a lot of opinions on this site and a lot of experience and I think I can wade through the unsubstantiated opinions.
I'm a 60 year old primarily White Tail and Muley Hunter, I really like Remington 700 stuff and I'm confident I'll here from the haters on that. I own a couple of 700's, a Sendero, an A-Bolt, a Tikka. I've owned m77's and Win model 70's and they all shot to very acceptable levels for me. Except for the Tikka, but its new and I'm still working on it. I did own a Vanguard and hated it, but I think it just didn't fit me well. I've been pretty happy over the years with the many firearms I've owned in this price range. I do not handload and shoot maybe 20 to 40 rounds a year through each of my hunting rifles and a whole lot more .22 ammo.
So I've come into a little bit of money from the sale of a property that I did okay on and I'm looking to purchase a real "quality" firearm. Maybe the last one I'll ever buy as my best days in the field are behind me. So I'm looking to buy that one gun that I can't really justify the price of to my wife that I would treat as more than just a tool to harvest game. My "keep this til I die" piece. I'm an okay shooter, won a few local comps but I'm no sniper and don't pretend to be. Nobody left to impress except the odd whitetail.
So I was thinking of a Remington Custom Shop gun or something maybe from Montana Rifle Company, I hear some negative stuff about Kimber on here but shake a tree and you'll find negative opinions on every firearm on here. I really like the looks of Sako but don't think they chamber the cartridge I want.
So here are my non negotiables, Synthetic stock ( I plan to use the gun and it would break my heart to beat up a nice piece of wood, which would happen
6.5 creedmoor (non negotiable, thats the caliber)
talley one piece bases and rings
Leupold vx5 2-10 x42. Just cause I like and trust Leupold.

I figure that leaves me about $3000 to $3500 to spend on the bare gun. Looking to hear suggestions or options I might not have thought of as to make and model.
And begin

I see you're in Halifax, if I was you I would be talking to Peter Dobson from Hirsch Precision (sponsor) and see what kind of custom build he could help you with. That way you get the rifle YOU want the WAY you want it and have something YOU helped put together. It may cost a little a more overall but it will be worth it in the long run. Barnard Action with Kreiger barrel in 6.5 cred. would be close to your budget depending on what stock you decided on. I built one with Peter in the past and it was an awesome time dealing with him. This is actually my next project to build.

There are many copies of the 700 action. I'd go custom full out. Get exactly what you want. No regrets after you spent all your money on something that was a compromise.
When looking for something special that's more than just a tool its hard to imagine that wrapped in synthetic. Just my thoughts. Kinda like never taking your new truck off the lot because it might get scratched. Again that's just me and my rifles scars remind me of good times

See what what custom shop has to offer. I've seen some gorgeous wood come from them. I'm sure they have some nice plastic too

Coopers are very nice as well as Christian arms. I think that's how it's spelled. They have some very nice light weight rifles

X2 custom will be a little more, but you'll care about it more. If I was building one it would be control round feed, sitting in a nice piece of wood, preferably had checkered.

I only shot a cooper once a long time ago it was a amazing rifle in every way fit finish and accuracy good resale value as well

I you are thinking about resale a factory rifle like a cooper will hold value better than a custom but if you don't care about resale a custom rifle exactly how you want is the way I'd go. Have fun finding your "forever" rifle.

I'm saying cooper is just as good as good as a custom Assembled rifle and cooper has always had a good name for Quality
And nothing is forever my boy

I know wood makes a gun real purdy, but this gun is going to be in pick ups, on airplanes, on 4 wheelers, on horses, strapped to back packs, its going to be in the rain and the snow, its going to cross fences, be dragged up in trees, etc etc. Just can't see paying a premium for a nice piece of wood and then beating the crap out of it.
I am in Halifax right now but like I said, I sold some property and I'm heading to Longview Ab for the duration. Thanks for the info on the custom rifle builder, that is an option also, but I really like the general consensus that I'm seeing..Sincerely, I appreciate the input from people that have more experience than me handling a little higher end firearms.

Cooper would be my top pick for the cartridge of your desire. The only other make is Browning, Hell's Canyon in the 6.5 Creedmore that I can think of off the top of my head.

Shop around a bit and check out some of the higher end rifles. Handle them and most important, see how they fit. You will know when you find the right rifle.
