I'm looking for any comments/feedback/experience with the Thompson/Center (TC) Encore Pro-Hunter rifles.

The model that I'm interested in is the one with interchangeable fluted S/S 28" barrels with synthetic stock.

I see S.I.R. sells them for between $700 and $800 and I can see using one in a magnum caliber for moose hunting. I just saw a video on Yukon moose hunting (huge animals) with Jim Shockey and noticed that one was used in one part of the video.

All comments welcome including being a single shot rifle and accuracy potentials

Thanks,

Thanks Alec,

Had not noticed all the postings on this subject. Of course my curiosity was just aroused today after watching the moose hunting video taken in the Yukon.

Didn't realize they were this hard to come by - will check the S.I.R. mail order again to see if what they have in their catalog is the same as my interest.

Thanks again,

Duke1

PS. The hunter in the Yukon using one was able to take 3 shots within a reasonable period of time before finishing the moose. He was an older gentleman (80 years old).

Thanks for the link.

I'm just about convinced to go with the Encore Pro-Hunter in 338 WM with S/S 28" fluted barrel and Flex Tec camo stock including Sims recoil pad. This pad is supposed to reduce recoil on the T/C by 43% over standard T/C models.

I had a hard time to decide on the caliber between 300 WM, 338 WM and 375 H&H. Seeing that I already have a number of bolt actions in 300 WM and one in 375 H&H and a collectable in 338 WM (New Winchester super grade M70), the 338 seems to be the logical choice.

This model is listed in the S.I.R. mail order catalog on the internet at $779.99.

Thanks again for your help.

I have 4 TC/Encores they all shoot great, my 7mm-08 shoots nice little one groups. and my 50x209 shot nice 5/8 group the last time out

Handled one at a local shop recently. My advice would be to look at one in person before ordering. No offence to anyone but you couldn't pay my to own one.
