I just bought my first handgun - a CZ 75 SP-01 Shadow - after reading many, many threads on here. I was torn between the Sig 226, the Glock 17 and the CZ but the CZ just felt right and I got an amazing deal on it.

I'm now looking for the Kadet .22LR conversion kit for it but I cannot find one to buy in Canada for love nor money. Can anyone suggest how/where I might get hold of one?

Thanks.

Trippy.

Hey Trippy,

I would try contacting CRAFM. Located in Quebec, but I believe they're the warranty center and importer (??) for CZ in Canada

Good luck.

Tripitaka...You will probably need to replace the mainspring from the factory(13lb in Shadow) to a 16 o17 to avoid light primer strikes..I own a Shadow as well and mine came with an extra spring.I am not sure though, if it is heavier then the 13lb factory...BTW you made the right choice in pistol..

Updates on what I got back.

It seems that Wolverine is willing to take an order at $580. Everyone else is telling me that they have been on back-order for over 12 months and there is no current prospect of having these available in Canada.

At $580, I have to question if this is even the right way to go. Thats a hell of a lot of money for a conversion kit.

Wow that is a pretty big chunk of change for a conversion kit. Are you planning or do you participate in IDPA or IPSC? If you do and like the CZ platform then it may be a good idea to get the kit and train with it. If not, it may be worth considering a dedicated .22 like the Ruger, Buckmark or GSG. Me personally, I have a dedicated Kadet that's been near flawless on the range - over 7k down range and only 4 stovepipes and 3 light strikes (all mini mags). Fortunately mine seems to luv the cheapest .22 ammo :) I've never regretted purchasing it nor would I consider getting rid of it. I did need to send it in for servicing but that was my own fault when I first got it.

Hope this helps.

I have the kit. It is probably the best od any conversion kits available. It will consume every type of 22lr I know of. The kit is boringly accurate. It makes for inexpensive shooting on what may be your every day center fire gun. That said, I am not sure it helps all that much for training for IDPA or IPSC. The absence of any recoil, from my experience, can lead to some pretty bad habits. They are fun though and of you don't reload your center fire cartridge way less expensive to shoot. The CZ is all steel construction.

A dedicated 22 such as the Browning or Ruger will probably give you as much fun and be quite a bit less expensive to buy.
Both the Ruger and Browning are better options than the GSG which tends tp be ammo sensitive.

Does the Kadet actually fit the shadow? I know my SP01 the fit is to tight, had about 2 more inches of slide to take up when I tried installing and there was no way without some brute force, so I use it on my 85 instead. I agree, the best 22LR conversion kit I've seen for any pistol, and I've played with quite a few. Incredible accuracy. With a crisp, light single action trigger I have no doubts that mine would shoot right along side my Hi Standard.

Thanks for the feedback. I don't shoot IPSC - I'd like to learn and get into it but the nearest range that does it is too far to travel too often and it will get further away when I eventually move. Therefore, as you recommend, I'll probably just pick up a Ruger or GSG in .22 for less than the Kadet kit and avoid any issues with springs or fit into the bargain.

I'll search the forum here on which .22 has the best reputation; it was really valuable to consider lots of opinions when buying the CZ.

One thing to keep in mind tripitaka is if you intend to shoot combat pistol (not sure how familiar you are with firearms) as a shooting discipline, one thing to consider is that kadet can be used on a double action pistol. The other two you mention are both single action. This is a huge training aid in preparation for double action triggers and even striker fired triggers. the other two you mention are great shooters though, edge going to the ruger. The GSG, my first one was accurate, my second, not so much. They seem to be hit and miss.

Yes it fits it fine. If you read the instructions you will find out how you fit it to your gun. Fits on the Shadow and the SP-01.

That is actually not a bad price considering CRAFM charged me $630 a few years ago, but the SP 01 Shadow I ordered along with the kit was only $740. In any case, it was certainly worth it for me as I can use the same frame with both 9mm and the .22LR. I have not needed to replace the factory recoil spring to shoot the conversion kit, but did have to custom fit the kit with some minor filing. (Instructions come in the manual).

ahhh, so I have to do some filing to make it fit my SP01...not really a drop in fit then, instructions or not. Meh, I'm good with using my CZ85 instead, but I'll check my instructions as per your recommendation Canuck, just hope it doesn't say anything about filing frame or slide, but I have my doubts.

wolverine supply - I have one I did not change any parts in the gun and all works great even with shi**y ammo, very accurate,
