I will be getting hold of a mold that is supposed to cast 419 grain bullets. it will be in a. 458 diameter for a 45-70 guide gun.

Im trying to look for sources for loading data so I will at least have some sort of starting point to reload using a 419 grain flat point bullet.
i found info for 405 grain and 485 grain so far.

Does anyone have any info on where should I start or any resources/ manuals I should check for a 419 grain cast FP gas check bullet

Thanks.

Firstly, don't get hung up on "419 grain bullets." That may be the weight with someones pouring, but your bullets may weigh from 410 to maybe 421.
The information for 405 grain bullets is plenty close enough. Just go by it, nothing dire will happen because of a very few grains difference in weight.

If it’s a heavier bullet should my starting load be lower or higher than the starting load for the 105 cast load.
Im thinking I should start a tiny tad lower since with a larger (heavier) bullet it would cause a bit more pressure.

The powders of my choice that I would be working with are: IMR 4198, H 4198, trail boss and IMR 3031.

I had great luck with RL-7 using Jae Bok Young's 420 grain crater lite bullet. I was using 46grains if I remember correctly Remington brass, winchester primers. Marlin Owners forum has quite a bit of information that you could use for the 420grain bullets.

From your post, I'm assuming you're reloading for a Marlin Guide Gun? I'm shooting a Marlin 1895GS and one of the cast bullets I use is a 420grGC. For heavier loads, two powders that have worked well for me are IMR 4198 and IMR 3031. For lighter loads using the same bullet, I've had good accuracy results using Unique and IMR 4227 with a 'filler'. Another powder I've started 'playing' with as of late is Trail Boss, primarily so I don't end up using a filler medium. Some of the cast bullet load info I use comes from the Lyman 3rd edition Cast Bullet Handbook. If you're stuck, PM me your e-mail address and I'll send you a scan of that info.

48.0gn of Reloder 7 with a 420gn Cast Performance wide flat nose works very well in my Guide Gun. Accurate and 1800fps.

Work up to that, its not max but its stiff.

Reloder 7 burns very cleanly.

I've also played with Blue Dot for reduced loads with a 420gn bullet. Anywhere from 11 to 17 grains. No filler needed. Works great.

You must be careful not to accidently double charge.

That's what I like about Trail Boss: It's real bulky and 13 grains fills a 45/70 case pretty well.
I tried Reloader 7 also but I think I like H322 better, but your gun might be a little different from mine.

I picked up a quantity of Trail Boss but I found reload info using it a little scarce. However, in case you're interested, the website

www.imrpowder.com/data/rifle/trailboss-oct2005.php

has info on loads using Trail Boss in calibers from 25-35 Winchester to 45-70 Government. Some info on handgun cartridges is also available.

That might have been where I found that load...either that or I read it on Marlin Owners, I can't remember. But 13 grains under a 405 grain cast works pretty well. Very little recoil too. I picked up a couple of cannisters of 405 grain Cactus Something Something bullets at Wholesale Sports in Kamloops and they work well with that load.
