We are a private camp on 6800 acres in WMU 57 that is looking for a few hunters to fill in the 1st week of the Ontario deer hunt. The cost is $350/week, that includes lodging, meals, dog fees butchering costs etc. If you are interested in joining us for a week of the hunt please PM me and I will get you in contact with the guy that organizes the hunt.

Thanks

SORRY can't include the booze for that price. We are just a bunch of guys that like to hunt but our first week numbers have dropped off a bit so we are looking for a few more, we are not trying to make money just break even. This is not a deer farm just 6800 acres of bush that we hunt hard to get our deer. Lots there just need to find them and cut them off. We are located north of Harcourt Ontario just south of the algonquin park boundry. The 1st week of the hunt is the 1st full week of november I think this year it is the 3rd to the 8th

Being from Alberta, "dogs", "Pay to hunt", - all alien concepts to me. Is this an outfitted thing, or are you paying stricty for the privildge of hunting this area?

I ask because I don't know:confused:

No.. it's a long tradition in Ont. Started when farmers gathered together to hunt chunks of land then as more sons etc moved to the city when everybody came back for "the hunt" they needed a place to stay so built hunting "camps" in the bush. It's now been a tradition for groups of men (& women) to meet & stay sometimes as little as once a year for the hunt & refresh old times. If you've never hunted in a camp with "the gang" for a week of good times, memorys & sometimes I've heard a drink or two ! your missing something. It would be much like if you got together with a bunch of your buds for a weeks fishing in a remote camp :)
You don't actually pay to hunt but you need to contribute for camp upkeep & improvements, to pay land txs, food supplys & in some cases to purchase land to hunt!

They would be paying to hunt in an established group, paying for a share of food, what is costs to take care of the dogs for the hunt as well as quads and use of the camp itself.

Tell me if I am off base on any of this but this is our groups setup.

There are a lot of differences between Alberta deer hunting and Eastern Ontario deer hunting, most are traditional things. Running deer with dogs has been around for a long long time around here, it may be no better or worse than any other kind of hunting but it is ours I guess.

Good luck finding a couple new members, my grandpa is from up that way, love the valley.

Yep, I have to agree with all this. The money he is asking is very reasonable, if I didn't already have a camp that I belonged to, I would be taking a serious look at this.

Organized hunt camps seem to disappear once you hit the Manitoba border. I think this stems from the fact that the west has more deer and more open country to hunt. Growing up in Central Ontario dogs and deer camps were a way to put a bit of venison in the freezer. Tough hunting and back then small deer densities. I can remember 3 or 4 deer for our group being a pretty good week. I think deer numbers are up now but the tradition is still the same. Western hunters tend to harvest their own deer and hunt for big bucks a little harder, whereas the hunt camp is usually a group hunt.

Are you guys meat hunters or do you hunt for trophy bucks?

Is their group hunting?

Do you accept out of province hunters?

How many hunters can you accommodate?

Well I can't speak for anyone else but most camp hunters are there for enjoyment first, meat second & if a trophy presents itself so be it.

Group hunting?...Yes a camp can shoot as many deer as they have tags for, which generally runs one tag per hunter. & yes in theory one hunter could shoot them all! Very few camp hunters look at it as shooting their own deer thus aren't particular if "I or you" shot it. When the question about success is asked here, the answer is "the camp got x deer".

Last two question I assume are directed at thread starter.

Very well put. I could not imagine hunting any other way. I have tried still hunting and it's just to slow for me. We are meat hunters. The saying goes if it is brown it's down. As far as out of province hunters it should not be a problem as long as everything is legal you would be more than welcome. We can sleep 16 no problem but have had up to 20 before. The price I quoted realy just covers our cost. It covers keeping the dogs, gas for generator, food, butchering etc.

Ahh how did that tune go ..... OOhhh the 2nd week of deer camp is the best time of the year ... we drink some beer and shoot the bull but never shoot no deer ... Shamus got a buck with the truck the first one in 10 yrs .... If there ever was tune to get the camp rolling on the floor this it :dancingbanana::dancingbanana:
