2-3 friends want to go harvest some deer / moose / or black bear with rifle this season d:h:

The only constraint is the distance. Ideally, would like to keep it relatively close to home -- within 5 hour drive from GTA.

Any suggestions, pointers, and contact information would be appreciated.

Feel free to post here or send me a private message.

Thank you!

IMO, get on a plane, fly to Edmonton and within 3hrs north and/or west, you would be good for what you want...even better further north you go.

just giving you the gears...you think there should be decent hunting north of the GTA.

Edmonton would be nice. The disadvantages though would be though that I won't be able to transport the meat back by plane and I will have to buy out of province licence to hunt there, which I will try to avoid. I haven't explored my own province yet... :)

Have a look around the Parry Sound to Sudbury area as well. Lots of good bear hunting, moose and deer should be alright, maybe not the best chance at a trophy, but lots of animals nonetheless. I heard of a 600+ pound black bear harvested near Killarney last year.

Anywhere around the North Bay to Sudbury area should meet your needs. Lots of outfitters and plenty of crown land. Probably be hard to get a moose tag with only 3-4 guys in that area though unless you pay and get one from an outfitter - assuming you can even find a place that has an available tag. Or you could calf hunt only but that can be a pretty hard go especially if you're new to moose hunting. Deer and bear won't be an issue getting tags.

Check out woods&water out in cambellford. I went a few years back my first year deer hunting. First morning on the stand monster buck came out. Owner is Rob, he is also a master Taxidermist.

He's also a lot of other things, as well. Do a web search on him here and on Google and you will find the other side of him.
There was a thread here after his most recent trip to the courthouse.....

CAMPBELLFORD -- A Campbellford man has been fined more than $3,000 for shooting a dog he mistook for a white wolf.

Robert Goudreault also saw his hunting licences cancelled until he completes an accredited hunter safety course and passes the exam, the Ministry of Natural Resources said in a news release.

Mr. Goudreault pleaded guilty to a charge of careless hunting when he appeared in the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville Dec. 11.

Court heard Mr. Goudreault was hunting coyotes from a tree stand in Stirling-Rawdon Township last March. Armed with a high-powered rifle equipped with a scope and keeping watch over a coyote decoy about 125 metres away, he saw a large animal with yellow-white fur charge the decoy.

He shot the dog thinking it was a white wolf "without taking due care to verify his target," the Ministry stated.

A conservation officer investigated and determined the wounded animal was a white Akbash dog belonging to a local resident.

Mr. Goudreault paid $1,666.42 in veterinary bills prior to his court appearance before Justice of the Peace Deanne Chapelle, who fined him $3,333.58.

"Hunters must always be sure of their target, and what lies beyond it, before putting their finger on the trigger," the Ministry stated in its release.
