We are looking at the possibility of importing some of the US made 858 variant receivers and selling them as barreled actions with our threaded stainless steel barrel. The trouble we have is finding any FACTUAL information on the quality of these receivers. I did read that in the past, pre 2011, they had some manufacturing issues but those are supposedly addressed.

Does anyone have first hand experience with one of these receivers ? Please, not looking for hearsay, just actual, factual, first hand accounts of quality, fit/ finish etc.

Thanks,

If this does become a reality what would be the price and would it be possible to get a complete rifle with the stainless barrel, or do you offer a complete rifle with this conversion done already.

I've been looking at these VZ2008 by CAI for some time as well. As you note, online reviews weren't great at first, but seem to have improved. I think they can't give them away down there as they don't use AK mags, so no one is interested.

Unfortunately CAI only sells complete rifles. We are looking for receivers only that we can thread to install a ss barrel.

Ohio Ordinance does the new receivers for CAI, I've talked with a number of Yank friends and the quality is great. The usual CAI quality assembly, but the receivers themselves are good.

I can machine receivers...except I cant by our glorious laws.... cripes, it would be one of the simpler jobs I run through.
Whats the damage on being able to do already approved receivers? Submit a sample and wait 4 years?
Cheers!

Leigh, why don't u guys make an 858 variant receiver in house? Or farm out to canadian shop?
Maybe it's dumb question I dunno

I really like the VZ58 but would prefer a longer gas system or at least a longer area for a forend upper and lower. At 6'4" I find the front rail area to be too short.

I wonder how a mid length or long length system may work.

It's a very logical question and the answer is...it would cost far too much money. Because they would need to be milled from a solid block of steel the tooling costs would be very high. They then need to be heat treated, engraved, have barrels installed and then be Cerakoted. Total cost for a Canadian company to make them....a lot more than you would want to pay.

actually,,the reciever is a very easy piece to machine,,,i showed one to a machinist friend of mine and he laughed,,he say anyone of the CNC mills he works own would pound these out easily,,,even some of the cheaper home type CNC equipment could do it,,,we're spending near a grand on a 858 when we could get them,,i dont see how a canada company can't make one,,
