With the jump in the price of guns we can only afford now to buy one new gun right now. Will be getting her a 7600 in 30-06. We tried a bunch of guns at my friends place and his 760 fit her well and she really enjoyed shooting it.

For now figured i'd pick up a cheaper gun for myself and wait for another year. Looking at some of those guns on t.e.c and not sure on what would be good. Something ok for carrying in the bush and fairly accurate and reliable. Also like the idea of using a gun with some history. Looking to spend under $350 and the rounds in the common sizes 30-06 308.

Theres a swedish M96 Sporter in 30-06 for $250 looks interesting

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

If the little woman is using a 30-06, stick with a 30-06 -- it simplifies ammo supply. Look at the Savage package rifle in 30-06. Bet you'll like it. Won't break the bank either.

If you're looking for a sporterised milsurp, you can get them for as low as $100.

If you're looking for a full wood milsurp, $350 can get you a K98(8mm or 308) $30-$375, Enfield (.303 or occasionally, 308) No1 Mk3 $250-$350 or No4 $325, or swede (6.5x55) $200.

In 30-06 you can get a sportered P17 for about $150-$250.

You've got good options!

For a bolt action you can check the exchanges for a sporterized Enfield 303. It's a good working gun and caliber for a low $, and has a detachable mag. If you can find one with up-dated iron sights and/or a scope mount, then that's even better.

If you wanted a semi, you can look for the SKS.

Both are good bush guns for deer size, and the 303 will take a moose, but I would only do it at close range to be sure (mostly due to the bulky military sights, rather than caliber).

But keep in mind when buying ammo for hunting that some (if not all provinces) have laws about not using a full metal jacket round while hunting, beacuse it does not mushroom like a soft-point to make the most on impact for a clean kill.
