I am looking into buying a scope. I think I have narrowed it down to two. Looking for a 1-4 power either a Trijicon Accupoint http://www.wanstallsonline.com/trijicon-accupoint-ta24r-1-4x24.html or the Vortex Viper http://www.wanstallsonline.com/vortex-viper-pst-1-4x24mm-tmcq-mrad.html

New to scopes, but I borrowed a Vortex for a month so I know it illuminates with battery power. I don't know much about Trijicon though. Anyone have one? I believe it has no battery illumination. Does the tritium "wear" out over time?

It will be used on my AR, XCR, and T97 with FTU.

Trijicon without a doubt. The TR24 is fantastic. It's illuminated with Fiber Optics during daytime use - Tritium only when it's very dark. There is a rotating 'cover' that can be used to control the amount of light coming into the pipe... useful when it's VERY bright sunlight and the reticle can bloom.. rotate the cover and you adjust the brightness.

Seriously, I wouldn't even consider the Vortex if you're down to these two...

I have had both. The trijicon glass was MUCH better. The turrets were fantastic. The only benefit to the Vortex are the reticle options. I had the 6-24 options, but the same can be said about the 1-4 scopes. Personally I don't care for the clutter of the vortex reticle, but the chevron option of the accupoint may limit your ability to hold over some shots at distance. Price points aren't really comparable though. The trijicon is like double the money. You do get what you pay for though. It is a true 1x mag. Shooting both eyes open is comfortable and the eye relief is GREAT. There is a duplex option that might help with holds. I got to run a guys in 3-gun and was amazed by the glass.

I have not used that vortex scope. I do own the tr24 and can attest that is has nice glass with excellent daytime illumination (that you cannot get with battery scopes).

Well thanks for the info guys. I still have much to learn about scopes and eventually I will be getting into a long range setup as well. Heh before you all posted here I found a Viper on the EE and bought it. I am going to get the Trijicon too and either keep both or sell one.
