Looking for fixed 6x recommendations

I'm looking for at least one or two fixed 6's for a couple rifles, one a .375 Ruger and the other a .243. I've been looking at the Leupold 6x36 and 6x42, and both appear to be good options. However, Leupold being what it is in Canada, I'm wondering if there are other viable options? Where are you guys buying your scopes? Looking online at Cabela's and Wholesale is quite frustrating, as they often don't list scopes that I know they have or can get. Is there a better option?

I like the power .. I think that the European 6x,42 (if you can find them) are very good optically in my experience and perform well in the field. I have a 6x,42 Zeiss that is terrific in low light BUT all of the European 6x I have seen have thick posts to complement the low light application they are primarily designed for. This might not be optimal for you ALSO they are usually heavier than Leupold which may be another issue on a hunting rifle where you carry more than you shoot. AND they typically come in 26mm tube diameter which is not as much of a PITA as it used to be but still an annoying factor because as near as I can tell the slightly larger diameter tube does nothing to enhance their performance.

I am not a "fanboy" of Leupold and in fact think that they are very highly over rated by most folks. They are "OK" but not the "Holy Grail" ... having said that I have a several Leupolds that have always performed well for me and I am very satisfied with and I think you may find that Leupold in this case is your best bet.

Talk to a smaller outfit. I like to buy Leupold scopes from Rick at ATRS because he can throw a rock and hit Korth in Okotoks. He has procured scopes for me in the past with ease. Don't buy a grey market scope as any scope not imported through Korth will have to go back to the US for warranty work.

Agreed. The grey market scopes brought in through third party companies will not have warranty in Canada, which IMO defeats the purpose of paying for a leupold.
 
I like both the 6x options from Leupold.
I keep it simple. Short action 700's get a 6x36, long action 700's get a 6x42 if not some sort of variable.
 
Weaver Classic K6 (6x38mm). You can like the Leupold better (unlimited warranty vs. Weaver lifetime warranty to orginal purchaser) but I will assert that per dollar the Weaver K is as good a value.
 
The newer Weaver's are a pretty decent scope.
I have a Nikon Monarch 6x42 kicking around as well, also not a bad scope.

^Risky IMO. Two local sheep hunters both had the same Meopta variable power scope on their hunting rifles. Early into their hunt, both objectives came loose!

Meopta optics=Eurotrash optics

To the OP, get yourself an M8 6x42 Leupold with AO. I've used one since 1988 with zero issues.

You will not be disappointed.

I've been running Leupold Fx-6 on a Browning BLR .308 for many years. This is my "quad gun" so it takes lots of banging around. I've never had any issues. On another post I talked about this scope as being the only functioning scope out of a number of good scopes when the temperature got bitterly cold. All others had the problems of frozen rings and turrets. One of the best things about Leupold scopes is...you can attach Leupold Flip-up scope covers, which are premium glass protection in my mind. As for a good place to get glass, I find Prophet River to be very good. Everything in stock is on their website, they seems to be able to get anything that I need, their prices are always competitive and service is A+++.
 
One of the biggest sleepers on the market is the Weaver 6X that is currently made in Japan. I have had two of them for a few years. They look good, have bright, crisp, optics, very reliable and repeatable adjustments, only weigh ten ounces, and are tough as nails.

i used a meopta 2000 7x50 on a 9.3x62 and on a 300 weatherby and never had an issue. just because someone wanted it more than i paid and i dont hunt anymore wild boar at night otherwise i will still have it.
