Looking for gunsmith who can reblue a barrel and repair surface pitting

I need a reccomendation for a gunsmith who can repair pitting on a barrel (outside) and reblue?
Any help is appreciated. Pm me with suggestions

Repair of surface pitting typically involves a filler, similar to autobody "bondo" filler which can be sanded/shaped to provide a level surface with the surrounding metal. Unfortunately, such fillers do not accept conventional Hot Bluing. They have to be painted and the best of the firearms coatings is CeraKote available in a rainbow of colours and degrees of lustre. It is professionallly applied by literally dozens of professionally-trained applicators nation-wide. Red Deer Shooting Centre provides a CeraKoting service, as does Black Box Customs out of Calgary. Google Cerakote and literally scores of application companies will pop up Canada-wide. CeraKote has the added advantage of being much more durable and weather resistant than Hot Bluing, no matter how well the latter is applied. CeraKote bonds to the metal at the molecular level, providing an exceptionally tough and durable, scratch-reisistand and rust-proof firearms coating.

Best of luck with your restoration project!

Generally speaking, pitting on a barrel is dealt with by removal of enough metal that the pitting is gone. This means that all the original surface is gone. A badly pitted barrel can be put o a lathe and a belt saner applied.

It would help if you were to provide more information about the exact situation, and what you want done.

Over 3 years ago, I made an inquiry here about laser welding to fill in pits prior to bluing.
There wasn't much response, but if it were more common, it would be a real boon for restorations.

Not as much as you think... if there is pitting in the stamping welding is still a problem... and with welding there is a problem of the metal added not taking the same bluing as the original steel. I found that out with mig and tig and low % nickle rod and coat hanger.

If anyone has removed the rib off a Rem 600 barrel and polished and blued the barrel you have seen how the welding of the rib studs to the barrel created spots that blued differently.

Rust on the outside usually indicates rust in the bore too. Jason at Gunco Ottawa gets all my bluing work. Great job, well priced, good turnaround.
