So I have 2 seasons of hunting under my belt. I've taught myself by reading from here or other books etc. So far I have just hunted locally for day trips but did buy a wall tent last year. I am wanting to do a week or more trip and would like to try for moose. I have no idea what WMU to apply for or even how exactly it works. Is there a way to get the odds better to be drawn? My wife will be hunting with me this year and possibly my two brothers, so they to could put in for draws, does this increase our chances? Also eventually I would like to try for Elk and Sheep etc, but right now I wouldn't have a clue how to go about doing it. Is a good draw plan to start applying now or wait? Basically I'm looking for whatever info people can give me including a good WMU to apply in for Moose.

Also the wall tent I bought didn't have a vinyl sod cloth and I wouldn't mind getting one put on. Can anyone suggest where I could buy one or have one put on?

Thanks in advance for any replies and help you can give me. I wouldn't be a hunter or a shooter without this site.

P.S. This is the deer I got last season

Hey I'm new to Alberta, so I really have no idea about the intricacies of the draw system, or even where to go hunting yet... so can't help with that but..

Nice lookin deer!

Alberta's hunting draws are based on a priority system. Each year you apply for a certain draw your priority goes up by one, so in other words, a person who has been applying for 5 years will be drawn before someone who has only been applying for 3 years. So yes, start applying for your future hunts now.

Most, if not all (not sure about that) moose WMUs require a draw, and for some it will take several years to get drawn. Here is a link to the AB regs and draw regulations:

The best thing would be to find someone in your area that hunts moose and get some advice. Moose live everywhere in the province, but the only areas that don't require a draw are the big bush up north.
