Looking for help Identifying lee rifle?

Hi Jonathon. I looked at the link once and when I went back to respond it wouldn't work. From what I remember it was definately a cut down Lee Enfield Carbine as the markings LEC on the left side of the body indicate. The date of manufacture is underneath but I can't remember if its 1896 or 1898. The rear sight (missing) was a leaf type graduated to 2000 yards. The butt was marked Enfield (Mark) I over(class) 1 underneath Enfield roundel. Overtop of the Brit marks you have the Militia and Defence department stamp and DP for Drill Purpose. One interesting part is that the brass marking disc was marked 8 PLH over a 3 digit number that I can't remember which stands for issued to the 8th Princess Louise Hussars. I have a similar disc marked 8 PLH over 107. The carbine has some Canadian history but not used in active service. If you want to sell the complete butt please message me. JOHN
 
When Bubba had his way with her, he cut off the rear sight pin base when he cut the dovetail for the rear sight and from what I can see, the front sight is also not original. Plus, there's no wood left. You've got an LEC action, minus its desirable carbine mag. and firing pin locking screw, that's about it.

I do get a kick out of the cribbage board though. Wonder if it came from a mess or a Legion?
 
Even though it appears to have the correct rear sight base, I am quite certain that is not a carbine barrel. The knox looks correct for a No. 1 barrel and the front sight looks to be a reworked No. 1 sight. The barrel also appears to be quite long for a carbine barrel.
 
the complete bolt and dust cover is nice to have, if that trigger guard is a correct LEC one that's also a good fined.

personally I think that rifle has a lot going for it. I made barrel bands and nose caps before for LEC's before. to file up a front sight wouldn't take long, you could use a MLM/MLE barrel just shortened and turn the profile a bit. then buy a repro wood set and yo would have a compete lec that you can take to in the woods without worry..

I have restored 1 that was in like 100000 worse condition(think boat anchor) and another that came to me as a receiver with a barrel on it.

ive also build project rifle on other LEC receiver that had the marking scrubbed off

personally the LEC receiver is by far my favorite Lee enfield/metford receiver made. The mlm/mle's are nice but they have that volley sight mount on the receiver that adds to the clutter
 
Do you know how long a carbine barrel is supposed to be? This is all new waters to me I have rebuilt a no1 mk3 but that’s about it
 
Thanks I’ll definitely check that out if I can find all the parts minus the back sight. I think that part is a lost cause but I can probably find a sight to fit in the dovetail groove that will work ok
