Looking for help pricing this shotgun (please)

I have this CIL 772 SXS 12 Guage siting in my safe. It has Zabalos barrels (Spanish). My father-in-law passed it down to me. He used to use it for duck and goose hunting. I am not sure the last time it was fired, but I did have it in a local gunshop and he did not see any problems (quick once over) other than the worn out butt pad, which I replaced with a Pachmyer. It is not ugly, but it sure isn't beautiful. I guess the worst thing is that the stock has been broken (dispatching a goose). It was repaired and isn't to noticable. It has lots of nicks and scratches from use. Extractors work. I am thinking of selling it but have no idea what a fair price would be

numrichs(GPC) book shows trade names to original manufacturers, and nothing shows for a CIL 772 sxs.the forend and buttstock look similar to a sxs a friend once had that was made in spain but i can't remember who made it.
 
Going only by your description (the picture is blocked by my employer's filtering software), it's reasonably safe to say that it's not worth much. I come to this conclusion because:

  • The broken butt stock makes any buyer cautious of the weakened stock and the potential for it to break again. Even if it were restocked, it would no longer be original and wouldn't fetch the extra cash it took to fix it.
  • I wouldn't suggest you made it sound trashed, but it does sound like it shows plenty of use.
  • These "trade guns" were imported, branded, and sold by a wide variety of hardware stores and companies like CIL and Charles Daly. The Spanish made "hardware store" guns were not the highest quality to come out of Spain in those years, nor were they at the expensive, well made end of the industry spectrum in general.

So, if it were new today, it would probably sell in the $650 range. Well used and with a cracked stock, I would say $150ish.
 
If the barrels are marked Zabala then it is quite likely that's who made it. Check on the barrel and action flats for proof, maker and date marks. Check them against the ones on this site.

It has the makings to be a really nice looking shotgun, but fact of the matter is I won't use it as I bought an 870 and I have a 410 single shot for grouse. I see in the ad that it has modified and full choke so I guess one barrel might be ok with steel. Most of the areas I would use it in are steel shot only so ....it will be going up for sale!
