Recently put an m1 garand in .308 on the ee for 1400 and was told I was either way to high some said it's a 1000 dollar rifle and a couple of people said I was way to low and insane for putting it up for only 1400. It's a Springfield armoury reciever with a 1942 dated reciever as near as I can tell I'm no expert. Any advice anyone can give me honestly as to a value of this would be tremendously appreciated

It has a winchester barrel from what I've been told no pitting, there are some scratches on the stock, if you pm me your email I can send some pictures as I have no idea how to post them on here.

Have you read this?

you will always get people trying to convince you its worth less than it really is.

In your favour, in .308 it is easy to get ammo for it.
If the barrel is not aftermarket it has more genuine USGI attraction for the collectors.
If it is a real USGI barrel, it could be a rare rifle, not many were made in "308" aka 7.62 NATO.

Of course pics would help, you can email them to me if you want, I'll send a PM...

Back in the 1990's, Springfield Armory Inc (not to be confused with Springfield Armory) produced some M1 Garands,, mostly made up of old parts.
Finding info on these is pretty sketchy,, but some used surplus receivers, and some used some newly cast Springfield Armory Inc receivers.
The date on this barrel would put it around that time, as some were offered in .308 (not marked 7.62 x 51 like the Danish/Beretta).

Could be one of those. I would strip everything down and start cataloging the markings on all the parts. The barrel may have other markings on the other side.
Any marks on the wood?,, looks to be a new one,, perhaps a Boyds.

Anyway, not a Winchester barrel.

So, could be a Springfield Armory repro model, or a maybe a Fulton Armory, or a James Armory or any of the other guys that put together .308 Garands.

$1400 is an ok price for a shooter. Not a collector's piece.

That's a commercial .308 Win barrel of unknown make. Based on the pics the rifle looks to be in good overall condition. Assuming the bore is fine it should sell in the $1400-$1600 range in today's market.

Some internet chit chat about the SAI Garands:

http://m14forum.com/steel-wood/109169-new-springfield-armory-inc-garands.html

Should be an easy sale, to someone looking for a shooter that can chamber and shoot ammo that is cheaper / easier than to find 30-06.
