I'm just fishing for a little info on 2 rifles. Part of my reasoning is because I'm trying to create a better record of my firearms, and possible values for the sake of insurance if needed.

First up is the Mosin. Aside from being a 91/30 with a scope (apparently the sniper variant) is there much more to know about it?

I don't honestly use it for anything other than collecting dust, but it's nice to look at and handle once in a while.

Next up, an Enfield......which has had the fore stock butchered at some point. I'm really curious what's up with the multiple stamps on this sucker too.

And for what it's worth, I'm not simply looking for "What's the max value I can sell for" because neither will end up on the EE. I'm not in the business of buying and selling anything for profits here.

I would appreciate any input! Thanks in advance!

The sniper looks like an earlier import or a very convincing fake. Is the barrel ground down where the scope serial is stamped? You should post a pic of the top of the barrel on the enfield, I see a mark up there I cant make out.

You mean this here serial number location? Doesn't look ground to me in the picture and I don't recall any obvious grinding marks on the rifle anywhere......I could be mistaken though. I'm not actually near the rifle at the moment, I took all the pics a few days ago and didn't get to posting anything until now.

I do find it odd that any serial numbers are fairly deep stamps while everything else seems lighter/fainter.

As for the Enfield:

Also had this on the bolt, if it's of any valuable info.

On top of the enfield barrel is DP, which means it was used for training at some point. Other marking include: two arrows facing each other=sold out of service, 14= date breeched(barrel fitted to action), 6.18 is probably a date but don't know what for, 303, 2.22 tons is a firing proof.

As for the mosin, you should check out mosinnagant.net. They have a pretty good sniper section.

That appears to be a well worn enfield. Made in 1914 by RSAF Enfield. Sold out of service 6.18 still has the original barrel. But mismatched bolt, and sporterized.

I'm making the assumption that the 6.18 date is associated with the sold out of service. Most of the time you only get the the double arrows but I've seen a few that also have a date with the arrows, not very common

Thanks for the info everyone.

I'll do a little more late night reading one of these days. Much as I had suspected for the Enfield, nothing special about it......but it does still shoot. Bolt is a little stiff, I'm sure it's age and lack of maintenance/care has something to do with it.

i have a 1918 that is very clearly marked DP, both barrel and action in very big stamped letters. and Lou did find woods that were marked DP also ( thanks Lou). Broad arrow marked with a bright excellent bore and no go is fine. Shoots like a dream. I think that some rifles were pulled for DP not because they were not functional, but rather close at hand at the time required for that purpose. I may be wrong but that is my opinion.

I am curious also about my 2 enfields. One a .303 and one .410. both marked with only one broad arrow.. not two facing eachother. only one has the circle with the arrow in it opposite side to the single arrow, and barrel matches the action with no commercial markings at all. can send pics via email to anyone interested in seeing the markings. i cannot seem to get them on here.
