looking for info on 280 rem

.280 Remington

.
I have found that the 154 grain Hornady works well in my .280 Remington 700 Mountain Rifle. I used it for over 10 years in B.C. for everything from deer to Elk and Moose. Expands well, and does the job.

Every rifle is different. What works in one does not necessarily work with another one. I used IMR 4064 and IMR 4831 for hunting loads. Standard CCI primers. You will have to work up your own loads for your rifle. Consult a good reloading manual, or more than one if you have several. Start with a load about 90% of recommended top loading, and work up carefully.

My 280 load with 140 Nosler Ballistic tips was 58.6 of Reloader 19. The book showed a max of 57 grains, but I could not get the velocity and was showing no pressure so I kept moving up .5, and the 58.6 performed to my liking. I have a Rem 700 Stainless synthetic, and there is very little lead. Then I ran out of 140's, so now use 160's. Nosler shows ReL 19 as the most accurate for 140's.

280 Loads

I had a Browning Bolt in Rem 280 24 inch barrel and used IMR 4831 for both 140 and 160 grain Nosler Partition bullets
140 Gr IMR 4831 55gr 3000 fps 5/8 inch at 100 yds
160 Gr IMR 4831 54gr 2830 fps 1 1/4 inch at 100 yds (above max but was ok in this rifle)

I realy like the 280, But got the Magnum illness and sold it for a 7mm. I have sold the 7mm and am in the process of building a 280 improved on a Remington action. The 280 shoots flat and is very accurate.
