Hello all, I'm looking for information on this particular C broad arrow, it's as if the C was stamped around a British sold out of service mark. I was wondering if this was standard or if it was stamped at a later date to increase the value of the revolver.

Thanks in advance and here is the picture:

It is a Cdn sold out of service mark. Have not saw this on a revolver but have examined it on many Sniders.

Quote: "If it had been previously Canadian marked, wouldn't the C contain only one arrow and when sold out of service the second arrow would have been stamped outside the C?"

The Sold Out Of Service mark was specifically TWO Broad Arrows, point to point, not one for ownership and a second applied 40 years down the line. Generally it was a single punch.

Make a Sold Out Of Service mark, surround it with a big C and you have a Canadian "Sold Out Of Service" mark and you only need ONE punch.

Very simple, only confusing to us half a century later!

another strange Canadian marking

These pics are taken of ex-Canadian service rifles (one is mine, the other pic I found on the net)

I have not found any reference to these markings on the receiver rings which is a 'C' with a + mark inside.

Fascinating that after 30 years of collecting, I still am finding unknown markings.

Any ideas??

Recently examined same stamp on a LLE which also had post 1945 War Assets Corp stamp.
