Picked this up recently and looking for info on the markings on it.

This is my 2nd zielvier and intend to use it on another 98k sniper build.
It's a single post reticle and shows honest wear but functional.
This one has some extra marks I'm not familiar with.
First pic shows standard banner and serial.
2nd pic has what appears to be a unit code? Rampant lion?

Any info greatly appreciated!
Possible date of scope would be great.

Nordiska Instrumenten AB - importer of the products of Carl Zeiss. As with many company names in Germanic/Nordic languages, it is contracted to make a catchy brand name - NORIN AB.

AB = Aktiebolag - Swedish for Limited Company - Ltd. An example is SAAB - Svenska Aeroplan AB.

Examples, if in doubt, are Gerhard Genschow - GECO. Bohmische Maschinenbau AG - BOMAG. Maschinen Augsburg/Nuernberg - MAN. Kriegeskorte Companie - KRICO. Et al.....

Interesting, what does this mean collector wise?
Military? Commercial?
Any idea when it was made based on serial?

John, it appears to be a late 1930's your pictures show us nothing. ?? Coated lenses?? Type of post/cross wire ?? How high does the range numbers go ?? Does it have a mount or rings ?? What is the diameter of the main tube ?

Jonh - that's suddenly looking a lot older than WW2 - just saying.

The Pre-WW2 scope supplied by Germany to the Swedes for their m/41B sniping rifle was made by Adolf Jackenroll of Berlin - more commonly known as AJACK.

Claw mounts are the usual fit to civilian sporting rifles, not any kind of a military arm.

After AJACK stopped going to Sweden, the Swedes had to make their own copy - known as the AGA42 and AGA44 scopes.

A troll through all of my sources does not show any use of Zeiss scopes by the Swedish military, so IMO this has never mounted on a Swedish military rifle.

This is not to say that you cannot do it with your faux Mauser sniper, just that it is a real frawk.

Even THIS would be better, and for not a lot of money -

WW1 / WW2 German Army Rudiger 5 x 56 Scope with Quick Release Mounts for the G98 Rifle. Opt 826 - Opt 826
This is in excellent condition and is complete with the quick release mounts which release it from the rifle sight mount (not included). This is a German 5 x 56 magnification scope to fit the Gewehr 98 (G98) rifle. It is nicely stamped below the windage adjusting wheel on one side with "78 5 x 56" and on the other with Rudiger", see the close up photographs. On the main body of the scope it is stamped with "11", on the quick release mount on one end it is stamped with "AWTS". The scope has a windage adjustment wheel which turns smoothly as it should, it has one screw missing from the top and the adjusting screw has been changed, see the close up photograph. The scope measures 12 1/4" long. The optics are clear and free of damage and the German post and duplex type cross hair is intact and secure. The quick release mount fixings operate as they should and the operation of the quick release is smooth. The optics are clear and free of any scratches or cracks. It is free of any dents. The price includes UK delivery. Opt 826

Thanks tac!

I'm not 100% sure if that scope ring was a claw or a turret that was cut off, but certainly of the soldered type.

Thanks for the link, all the info and time you given!
