1901 Winchester Model 1894 Rifle 30 WCF 1/2 Octagon 20" Barrel 1/2 Mag. From what I understand winchester never made a 20" half round / half octagon rifle and originally everyone thought it had been cut until I received the letter from the Cody Museum from Wyoming. If anyone has any info on why it would have been made and a value I would appreciate it. Someone had thought it was a window display for Winchester.IMG_1513 2.jpgIMG_1505.jpgIMG_1506.jpgIMG_1507.jpgIMG_1508.jpgIMG_1510.jpg

During that time period the firearms companies offered custom options on a regular bases.i would not call the gun rare due these being common options that original buyer paid more for. It is a carbine so probably $800 to 1100.

I think it would be worth a bit more than that. It's probably one of a kind, with factory provenance, and while not in great condition, it doesn't look bubba'd.

Those "common options" (or the combination of those options) you refer to are exactly what make some of those guns rare and quite interesting to a collector, esp when it letters in original configuration.

Beautiful gun! If you haven’t already, I definitely recommend reading the book Winchester “Model 94: A Century of Craftsmanship” by Robert C. Renneberg. It’s full of all the information you could ever need for model 94s. If you’re interested, the author has a Facebook page you could try to contact him through and I’m sure he would be really interested in helping you out. Some collectors really value oddball configs like this.

Just this past Saturday I held the exact same configuration of 94 in my hands only it ser #rd to 1905 and it was in 38-55. The owner and I are trying to tailor up some rounds that will shoot good enough for Cowboy Levergun Sillywet.

both Marlin & Winchester had an extensive variety of order options available in those years, The Marlins with 20" barrels were labeled in advertising as "Short Rifles" at the time. Winchester now markets a labeled Short Rifle now as well but not sure if they were labeled as such back then.

Nice rifle...and don't let er' languish in a safe unused...lot of old girls still like a little fling once in a while...and old guns are no different!!
