I've been trying to compile a history of Schultz & Larsen rifles, including both centerfire and rimfire models. I'd like to see whether some of this forum's Schultz & Larsen experts can help me with the rimfire part of my project. I've posted this on another forum as well, but, since S&L rimfire rifles were very popular in Canada, I'm guessing that Canadian rimfire shooters may be the best source. As I understand it so far, the history of S&L rimfire rifles looks something like this:
1. S&L M21, M22, and M23. Falling-block action .22 LR rifles made after about 1919.
2. S&L M24 and M33. Bolt action rimfires introduced in 1924 and 1933 respectively. All following rifles are bolt action.
3. S&L M45, M46, M47, M49. Built right after WWII.
4. S&L M58. Built 1958-1970. This numbering is confusing because S&L also made a centerfire target rifle M58 following WWII on refurbished Mauser 98 actions.
5. S&L M61. Introduced in 1959 at the same time that the similar M62 centerfire target rifle was introduced. The M61 and M62 often appear together in the same ads.
6. M70, M77, M88. Built between 1970 and 1992 when S&L rimfire rifle production in the Otterup factory ceased.
For what it's worth, I've read that a total of about 28,000 rimfire rifles were made by S&L. This number probably exceeds the number of centerfire rifles made by S&L, at least up to their present production of centerfire switch-barrel rifles.
I'm sure some of the above isn't 100% correct or complete. Can anyone correct or add to this?
Many thanks in advance.
