Sometime this year mostly likely (I hope) I will be going to Saskatchewan, probably either Aug or sometime between Nov 15 and Jan 2022. I will be going there to see my Daughter her boy friends and my grand children (my newest born in Oct 2021).

I was thinking maybe I could go hunting Jacks.

I tried to find some online hunting Forums for Saskatchewan so I could strike up some conversations but could not find any.

Does anyone know of any forums (Non Facebook).

If I could find someone who would take my son and I out for one day and I don't mind paying some money, We would bring our own lunches and drinks and all.

Go door locking in good looking pastureland. Where there is livestock nearby is often very good.
This is best handled by small bore centrefire rifles with good hunting normal power range of optics. Jack's if not subject to undue hunting pressure react as all rabbits often do: just as they are about to depart thier territory they will stop & look back to see what disturbed them. Before continuing to move away from the danger. If you are within effective rifle range and a good offhand shot, you have about 3-5 seconds of opportunity shoot them in the head.
Good luck sir and bring an adequate supply of ammo.
Far superior to golfing IMO.

I'm not sure what a Jack is and I'll assume you're talking about rabbits. From the Sask Wildlife act, anyone can hunt rabbits in Saskatchewan.

If your daughter is a Saskatchewan resident and you plan on going in November, apply to the draw in the Family First priority pool for the Canadian Resident Whitetail deer, if you fill out all your 6 choices for zones, you are pretty much guaranteed a tag. The season for most zones is 20 Now to 2 Dec. You don't need a guide and finding places to hunt isn't all that hard.

Edit: correction on my part. Anyone can hunt rabbits, only SK residents can hunt coyotes.

That's a very good question. However all rabbits are non game species. No license no limits no closed season on land where it's permissible to hunt.

This is correct, there are limitations on where one can hunt, the limitations are in the Wildlife Act.

Interesting. Thx for the correction.

Is there not a recent exception for honorably discharged members of the CF?

With official proof of course ??

Has covide trumped this ???

The only Veteran program is for free licenses/tags. Not sure if it applies to non-residents. It has nothing to do with what species one can hunt, simply free licensing.

Sask does not have such a thing as a small game license. Jacks, gophers etc do not require a license to shoot them. They are not a protected species. Same in AB. There is areas known as community pastures or grazing leases and they can be found on the RM Maps of whatever RM you are hunting in and are available for purchase at the RM office. They are open for all to hunt on. Pasture lands like those are your best bet for jacks. They like those grassy areas as opposed to grain crops etc. The above posts about non-residents are false. Canadian residents are called just that in the regs, Canadian residents and all unprotected species with the exception of coyotes(only SK residents can hunt coyotes) may be hunted by both SK and Canadian residents. Only US and other foreigners are classed as Non-Residents.

I checked out the Wildlife Act and stand corrected on the rabbit part, any persons may (no distinction of residency), without a license hunt rabbits without a license, they can also hunt magpies, shrews, skunks, etc. But I am right about the coyote portion, unless I've somehow missed it in the Act: "A Saskatchewan resident may hunt coyotes with a firearm without a licence." Also, Community pastures are not open at all times, you need to check with the pasture manager.

Can you point us to the regulation/law where this is written?

It's in the Wildlife Act. I was wrong earlier on rabbits, they can be hunted by anyone. As for coyotes, the act clearly states only Saskatchewan Residents can hunt them year round with no license and no limits.

Best population of Jack Rabbits is in Saskatoon.
As the snow goes, they will be at my wife's sprouting flowers.
Don't get caught.

You know it's kind of cool a fellow can hunt rabbit species on the three prairie provinces. No license no limits no set season. Little hickups be safe be legal & extra rules during differing deer seasons. Natural Canada has its little gifts.

OK, so we have established that I a non resident can hunt Jack, I think there is some license I found you needed but regardless. What I would like to find is a contact who hunts Jacks
that would take my son and I out, don't even mind paying some money for a day and we will provide our own eats and their as well.

There does not appear to be many apparent Saskatchewan hunting forums or ways to find people. If someone knows of any let me know. I did place an add on Kijiji Saskatchewan.

Thanks All
